Hulu Plus adds Criterion Collection films to its lineup

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If you’re a movie buff you know and love The Criterion Collection. They have released some of the best Laserdiscs, DVDs and Blu-ray of some of the best films in history. And now it’ll get a little easier to watch some of those classics as Criterion officially joins Hulu to stream some of the films in their library.

The catch is that you’ll have to subscribe to Hulu Plus at a cost of $7.99/month. The films will be presented in HD and you can watch them on your computer, iPad or (if you have the hook-up) on your TV. But what they’ll be missing are some of the classic Criterion special features which are, to me, one of the big selling points of the discs.

Right now there are about 150 films available in the library with Criterion and Hulu promising to add more. For now, you can start with films like DIABOLIQUE, 400 BLOWS, CRONOS, RASHOMON, M and MODERN TIMES to get yourself started. You won’t find a lot of the modern, pop culture-y Criterion films like ANTICHRIST, BENJAMIN BUTTON, CHASING AMY, THE ROCK or DAZED AND CONFUSED but you probably own most of those DVDs anyway. This, if you’re so inclined, is a good way to experience some films you may not have seen or have not seen in a very long time.
