Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor may not appear in Justice League Part One

04.01.2016

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Zack Snyder Jesse Eisenberg Ben Affleck Henry Cavill Banner

When we last saw Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, he was...well, I won't get into that here, but I think it's safe to say that many of us just assumed that he will still show up in some of the upcoming DC movies, specifically the planned THE JUSTICE LEAGUE films. But during a conversation with Business Insider, Eisenberg said he isn't sure what the future holds for his character.

I don’t know if they are so settled on where my character goes. I only hope I have another opportunity to work with these wonderful people and play this interesting character...The character has so many different faces. He has a public persona that appears charming and friendly and then a deeply disturbed private persona, so it will be interesting to see where he goes.

Although this probably means that Eisenberg's Luthor won't be in the first THE JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, since filming for it is expected to kick off this month, I wouldn't be surprised if the villain ends up appearing in the follow-up. What do you think the future plans are for the character?

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE PART ONE will be in theaters on November 12, 2017, while THE JUSTICE LEAGUE PART TWO has been set to open on June 14, 2019.

Lex needs work

I saw BvS twice now, and I'll say that I warmed up to Eisenberg's Luthor a little more the second time. He brought a very odd interpretation of the character, which I'm not really sure fits with the rest of the cast. I bought his menace, but he was borderline annoying.

Say what you will about Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, he was much better than Robert Vaughn as Ross Webste in Superman 3.

I thought I was going to hate him in BvS but I ended up liking what he did with him. He may be very different than how we have normally seen Lex but it fits with this day in age.

Yeah. I really liked the movie, but this Lex was definitely a weak link.

He was terrible

"He has a public persona that's charming and friendly"- at what point in his character choice did he come off as charming and friendly?

That's fine. No need to overcrowd and/or overstuff too many characters in Justice League (other than the actual Justice League).

I appreciated his unique take on Lex, even though it wasn't my cup of tea. It make sense that they'd want to put him away for a bit to focus on new (bigger) villains in the new films, but I definitely see him coming back.

I'm cool with this. There were times where he was obnoxious but other times where I found him amusing. Although mainly the reason why I hope he isn't involved in Justice League Part One is because I'm a little over the character right now. I want DC to explore other villains. The character of Lex Luther has been involved in so much of Superman on screen that I'm a little over the character right now.

I thought Eisenberg did an awesome job with Lex, especially upon a 2nd viewing of BVS. There are some real layers to that character when you know where all the cat/ mouse stuff is going. Just my two cents.

I'm okay if they bring him back but they seriously need to tone him down quite a bit. WAY over the top in BvS.
