J.J. Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro for the role of the villain in Star Trek 2

Eric Bana was the first villain for J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK. You might figure that he would have already cast most of the major roles for the sequel but that’s not the case. The last major role up for grabs is the one of the villain.

Who might Abrams have in mind for his next baddie? Well, it looks like the one floating around in his head is Benicio Del Toro. It seems that the director has already met with Del Toro about the possibility of him taking a role, even though he hasn’t told him exactly what that role is. He’s basically like, “I want you to be the bad guy. Can you handle that?” Variety says that an offer will go out to the actor as soon as this weekend.

Man, I hope he takes it. I’m a big fan of Del Toro and think he would be an amazing Trek villain. But who could he possibly be? Any guesses?

Production should begin early next year.
