Joaquin Phoenix may do a foot comedy and/or Clint Eastwood’s Hoover movie

Now that he’s apparently finished his Year of Lunacy, unretired actor Joaquin Phoenix is getting back to business.

Phoenix may be shaking off the spurious documentary I’M STILL HERE with an intentional comedy called BIG SHOES, described as an “out there” indie about a foot fetishist who’s also a shoe designer (not exactly a leap back to the mainstream). Lovely young Mia Wasikowska (ALICE IN WONDERLAND) will reportedly join him in the film from director Steven Shainberg, who dabbled in taboo with SECRETARY.

Meanwhile, Clint Eastwood supposedly wants the debearded actor for his HOOVER biopic. That project has Leonardo DiCaprio lined up to play J. Edgar Hoover, and Dirty Harry would like Phoenix for the part of Clyde Tolson, Hoover’s FBI protege and seemingly a whole lot more.

That script comes from MILK writer Dustin Lance Black, so Phoenix could theoretically jump right back in the game with some Oscar caliber material, but the project is still coming together. (Vulture theorizes that I’M STILL HERE director Casey Affleck confessed that charade to hasten the transition from the perceived addict and mental case of the past months.)
