Johnny Depp says he's down for a 21 Jump Street cameo

12.08.2010

Even though 21 JUMP STREET is being made into a seemingly ill-conceived film with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, that's no reason it's original star can't show up briefly.

And there's really no one in Hollywood more good natured than Johnny Depp, who has sometimes been known to dress up in full Jack Sparrow gear in everyday life just to make kids smile.

“We wrote a cameo for him, so we hope he does it,” Jonah Hill said. Depp's response? Speaking to MTV:

“I’ve said I’m into it, but no one’s actually approached me…I’m in. I’m in “I think it’d be pretty easy.”

So uh, someone needs to talk to someone here and get this happening before he starts shooting a movie in Zimbabwe or something. One request Jonah, please somehow, some way, make him wear that same outfit.

Extra Tidbit: Depp is currently duking it out with Keanu Reeves for the title of "nicest guy in Hollywood."

Not gonna poo poo this but I was never a fan of the series. Johnny Depp's work is always first rate IMO,regardless whether I like the film or not.

Of course Depp is down for a cameo. The guy gave a cameo in The Final Nightmare and said he would have done one for New Nightmare if he had been asked. Depp isn't one to be embarrassed or ashamed of his past roles that made him who he is.

I really think that he's a great guy. Not a great guy for an actor, just a great all around human being. The effort he puts in to please fans and help people is really going beyond the call of duty. Whether you like him as an actor or not, I think everyone

Whether you like him as an actor or not, I think everyone should acknowledge that he's a great guy. He truly deserves all the success he's gotten. The fact that he's actually an extremely talented actor is just a bonus.

Extra Tidbit: I really think Hugh Jackman should be added to that list.

Why the hell is this a disaster? Listen, NOT ALL REMAKES ARE BAD. 21 Jump Street is the perfect type of material that SHOULD be remade. And it's starring Jonah Hill. HOW IS THAT A DISASTER? WHAT THE FUCK.

Not only is it starring Jonah Hill, he's writing it, along with Michael Bacall who wrote Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. And it's being directed by the guys behind the fucking awesome Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

So you have Jonah Hill starring in a project he's really passionate

So you have Jonah Hill starring in a project he's really passionate about, writing it's screenplay with a proven great writer, with a really inspired choice of director(s). Add a Johnny Depp cameo.

And yet it's an "ill-conceived disaster". LMAO.

I'm pretty open to this movie but just to clarify why others are worried:
The cast- Just so you know, a lot of people really dislike Hill. They found him grating and I guess I can see how he would be. More importantly though, his co-star is the almost universally hated Channing Tatum. Also, according to IMDB, Julianne not-an-actress Hough is the female lead.
The Directors- CWACFM may have been a good film but this is their first live action film. Who knows how it'll turn out.
The writers-

The writers- Michael Bacall has only written 3 movies, all of varying quality and Hill has never written anything before. Hardly a guarantee.

Again, I'm not saying I agree with all (or any) of these points but these are the reasons that most people are worried.

BTW, thanks for at least trying to say WHY you think this will be good instead of the usual "Fuck u haterz" attitude you usually find on the internet.

I appreciate your reply Oldman (name, not insult lol).

I guess I was unaware that Jonah Hill could be seen as a negative factor to a film, considering most of his work is considered by most (including myself) to be the funniest stuff to come out in recent years (Superbad, Knocked Up, Greek, Cyrus, Funny People - not funny but great film).

I understand the hate for Channing Tatum, though I think it's mostly unwarranted. No, he's not Daniel Day-Lewis. But he was phenomenal in A Guide to

I understand the hate for Channing Tatum, though I think it's mostly unwarranted. No, he's not Daniel Day-Lewis. But he was phenomenal in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. In a film with Robert Downey Jr., Dianne Wiest, Shia LaBeouf, and Chazz Palminteri, to have the most memorable performance says that he is a talented actor, even if he's not getting the type of roles that allow him to do ANY acting whatsoever.

I think more then anything I'm just disallusioned at the negativity I see so much around here. People are so quick to call films disasters before they're even given a chance to put a damn cast together.

I sometimes wonder if certain people really even enjoy films, or just enjoy criticizing them.

Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said.

I believe that Jonah Hill has just gone the way of Michael Cera and people feel that he's overstayed his welcome. You know, playing basically the same character over and over type of thing. As for Tatum, I'd like to agree with you because he WAS good in AGTRYS but he was just playing an angry thug. It wasn't a very complex or dynamic character. In the roles where he's supposed to be suave or charismatic, like GI Joe, I feel that he fails.

In the roles where he's supposed to be suave or charismatic, like GI Joe, I feel that he fails. I'd like him to blow me away with a great performance but I think he just suffers from a bit of stoneface, like Worthington. You can see that they're trying, but their faces just don't seem to move very much.

I especially agree with the last bit. There seems to be a lot of hating things before there's even a frame of footage shot. I like to wait until I've at least seen the trailer, or preferably the entire film, before deciding to hate a movie. Even then, I don't really hate movies. Most movies are usually mediocre. I'm not the type that walks out of or stops movies just because they're a bit dull or I'm not liking it. I've run into many movies that are dull in the beginning and I think of stopping only to discover that they are incredibly good later. I just enjoy movies.

If I post any negative comments in these shoutbacks, it's just my opinion at the time but it certainly isn't set in stone. I'm more than willing to change my mind because movies can always turn out to be good.

Agree on all points, however, I respectfully disagree about Tatum's performance in "...Guide To Recognizing...", I felt he was just playing angst/angry all the time and granted that's what the role primarily called for but there was no charisma which is something Tatum could have brought to the role/character if he was a better actor. It would have given a more compelling reason for Dito to want to stay and hang out and around Antonio. I tend to find all of Tatum's portrayals wooden/stunted.

Not counting him completely out yet, he hasn't ruined a movie for me...yet.

Fair enough. I thought the scene were he broke the fourth wall and described himself as a "piece of shit" was pretty convincing. It added a layer of self-loathing to the character that made him much more relatable and understandible, and I'm not quite sure that someone like Worthington (though I do think it's a solid comparison) could have really pulled off.

As for his turns in other movies, I agree he's been nothing exciting whatsoever, but again, I really don't think these roles are tailor

As for his turns in other movies, I agree he's been nothing exciting whatsoever, but again, I really don't think these roles are tailor made for rich character development or anything. That's not to say he's even capable of such, but he seems to just be playing different stereotypes at the moment, similar to what Ben Affleck was doing during the rut of his career, and he ended up proving he has SOME chops lol.

Anyways, apologies for derailing this. Depp cameo sounds awesome, he really does seem like an awesome guy, which is really nice to hear in this day and age.

the thing, for me at least, is that THIS IS NOT 21 JUMP STREET, just like the charlie's angels movies were NOT, as fun to watch as they were, a good adapatation of the TV show. So even if the movie is good, it won't be a FAITHFULL adaptation of the TV show we remember... And I think the "hate" comes from here!

Disaster? How about you wait until a trailer comes out before you jump on one side of the fence or another. Seriously people give the soloist crap for liking everything but you seem to hate everything!
