Julianne Moore joins The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Catching Fire projected to hit $950 million worldwide

It was announced over the weekend that another great addition has joined THE HUNGER GAMES franchise. Julianne Moore has been cast as President Alma Coin in THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKING JAY PART 1 and 2. The film adaptations for the popular young adult series has attracted better than expected talent, and Moore should be a great fit as the leader of the rebellion against the Capital.

Meanwhile, Alan Gould from the investment group Evercore is predicting THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will make about $950 million worldwide, even though the film isn't out for another two months. The movie is projected to make $375 million domestically and $575 million in foreign markets. The first film made $691 million, but only $283 million of that came from overseas. A small drop domestically makes sense, but if CATCHING FIRE does perform that well in international markets it would be more than enough to cover the decreased domestic total.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is out November 22, 2013. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKING JAY PART 1 will be in theaters on November 21st, 2014 and PART 2 drops on November 20, 2015.

Extra Tidbit: Think their predictions sound right? I think it could drop even more domestically, but I guess we'll see soon enough...

That estimate sounds a little conservative to me

Let's face it: this isn't TWILIGHT where pretty much everybody outside of its target audience was mocking it mercilessly. THE HUNGER GAMES is a solidly written trilogy that developed a big fanbase outside of the teen audience (I read and enjoyed them) and the films feature at least one Academy Award-winning actress.

I thought Julianne Moore's casting was already a done deal and my opinion hasn't changed: she will kill in this role.

These movies have assembled a heck of a supporting cast. Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Jeffrey Wright...I think Woody Harrelson stole the show with the first one, and Julianne Moore seems like she would fit right in. I'm standing by the opinion that this doesn't deserve to be put in the same category as Twilight. The Hunger Games was a good movie, it was a teenage-aimed film that was not in the least bit vacuous or silly.

I don't see it making that much in either market. The first one was rushed and everyone noticed the bad job they did. Not to mention the acting was subpar as was the story. I think it will open big for a week and then have a big drop off. It will struggle for the 250 range domestic at least.

After the 1st flick came out I was intrigued enough to read the books. I really enjoyed them. I always pictured President Coin to be older. Still, Moore is most definitely talented so I'll just wait & see how she does. I'm always up for new takes on characters as long as they key elements are in place. As for how much it'll make, I'm not sure I'd bid that high on it. I think it'll definitely do better at the box office than the 1st, but I just don't think it'll gross that much.

i dont see it making that much, but who knows, a bunch of tween/Jennifer fans may help make it earn that much. I know I wont be seeing it cuz the first film didnt do anything for me and the trailer looks the same.
