Kevin James goes Boom with new Sandler comedy

You’ll be seeing them this summer in GROWN UPS and next summer in THE ZOOKEEPER and Sony Pictures wants more Kevin James and Adam Sandler. The studio has signed a deal for James to star in HERE COMES THE BOOM with Sandler producing the film (it’s unlikely he would have anything other than a cameo role in the film). BOOM would also reteam James with his GROWN UPS star Salma Hayek who is attached to star as the female lead.

So what is BOOM all about? As is the current trend, Sony wants to keep plot details secret (this is a KEVIN JAMES COMEDY not “Lost” – just tell us what it’s about…). All that’s known about the film is that James co-wrote the script with Rock Reuben, a former writer on “The King of Queens.”

This is James’ third straight comedy at Sony/Columbia after PAUL BLART surprised the world with almost $150 million at the box office (he previously had supporting roles in HITCH and 50 FIRST DATES, also for the studio).

Sony is looking to get filming underway in January and if they hold release until summer 2012, it would be the third straight year they release a Kevin James comedy as a big summer release. Chew on that for little bit.
