Kind of creepy concept art for the Lizard that could have been in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2

Jan. 2, 2013by:

I need you to take yourself back to 2004 when Sam Raimi was still making SPIDER-MAN movies. Do you recall when it was rumored that the director wanted to use the Lizard as one of the enemies in his sequel? If you were ever curious as to what Raimi's take on the villain would be, some concept art has surfaced via Comicbookmovie.com after doing some searching on Constantine Sekeris' website.

My initial thought when looking at the concept pieces was "creepy". Now I've moved on to "raptor face" for the first one, and I'm having some problems with the mouth shape on the second. Reminds me of an ant-eater for some odd reason. It may just be the fact that it's drawn forward facing looking straight out. You can also see a little on Marc Webb's lizard in these pieces.

Not that I don't enjoy Rhys Ifans as an actor, but I really wanted to see Dylan Baker evolve into the Lizard. I think he has that sort of softness and vulnerability that makes you feel for the character. Then again, I'm always going back to this version of the character (I know, I know...):

Check out Raimi's ideas for the Lizard. If you'd like to see some other concept art for Silver Surfer, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and CABIN IN THE WOODS, head on here.

nope

No sir, I don't like it. Don't understand why everyone wants a snout-less lizard in these movies. Are they trying to avoid it looking like a raptor.

The bottom one looks cool, top one is too scrawny...

The bottom one looks scary, not like its just some guy with green CG over his face. They really screwed up with the last spiderman film in that the hero was an idiot, it was full of "accidental coincidences" and the villain was boring and looked dumb (not as dumb as green goblin, but still really bad).

no difference

the top one is worse than what we got and the bottom looks the same as TAS version. raimi would have just ruined another character. his trilogy is borderline awful!!

A shame this never happened.

I'm a die hard fan of the original Spider Man trilogy and was pretty disappointed that we wouldn't be getting Spider Man 4 or 5 with The Lizard and maybe Carnage. The remake was average at best. It has its moments but could have been a lot better. I think that Raimi's Lizard would have been better because I think the design would have been better and that the audience would of had a more of a emotional payoff for the fans since Spider Man 1 with Raining building up Baker to be the Lizard. I think that was one of the remakes faults was that there was no emotional payoff when Peter fought The Lizard. There was no build up or mentor feeling that we had perfectly displayed in the original Spider Man films.

I'm glad we are able to finally see the drawings of what could have been a really great villain in a really great film.

I'm a Die-Hard fan of the Raimi Trilogy as well. Even though Part 3 missed the mark, the ASM series is just a cash grab.

Kinda agree with you on this one. Those were my exact thoughts watching TASM, there was no build up or tension or even an payoff to where you could feel emotion about them squaring off. It should have been done like part 2 with Doc Ock & Spidey, where you felt that emotional payoff in the end.
