Last House poster

02.10.2009

If you had never heard of or seen the original LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, you might think that this poster for the upcoming remake is some kind of haunted house movie. There may be some dark and evil things going on inside of that house but it's the people who are haunted (and I don't mean that in a ghostly way).

Of course most of you have seen LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and know it's all about parents looking for revenge on the gang who raped, beat and left their daughter for dead. And if it's anything like the original, it's insanely brutal (you may remember the original tagline warned people against fainting). The poster debuted today on Shock Till You Drop and if you click the little teaser below, you can head over and see the full deal. LAST HOUSE hits theaters on March 13.

Stupid stupid stupid

The picture of the house makes the movie look like Amityville, the tagline is God awful. Only thing this movie has going for it was the eerie version of sweet child of mine on the trailer.

I can't wait to see this thing bomb in theaters. Best thing they could do for it is make it PG-13 so stupid 13 year olds will see it, actually thinking it's a horror movie.

The original had chainsaws. Chainsaws rule.

I like the original, if not for the grittiness and the home made feel of it, than for none other than the ridiculous subplot involving the keystone cops set to a joyfully twangy tune. I wonder if that'll make it into this. I don't think so, but having seen the trailer for the remake, I can say i've seen the movie, because they pretty much showed you the entire damn movie, complete with the main villain's demise. It looked sweet, they picked good actors to play the villains but I liked the

Funny Games, the original Belgian (?) film, not the remake, didn't bother me as much as Last House, though its pretty challenging stuff. Last House made me seriously question my view of Wes Craven as a film maker. Guess you'd be hard pressed to get a film like that a mainstream release these days, though my local arts cinema was the first place in the UK to legally screen Last House.

Bad Idea...

The tagline for this poster blows..."Bad people" what a description. People in general would have been more alarming. I have no expectations for this film so maybe it will surprise me.

The first one is classic, brutal, but classic. One of the best "do two wrongs make a right" stories ever.

Now if you want to see a strait up snuff film go watch "Funny Games". I mean, awesome acting, great directing, but man this is the most a movie has made me uncomfortable since Ang Lee's Hulk. Talk

The first was so brutal I couldn't honestly recommend it to anyone I know, but I've seen the trailer for the remake and it looks ok. It looks seriously aggressive. Think early Saw, not Hostle 2. It made me jump several times, but that doesn't really tell me if it's as rough as the original. Maybe early reviews will help suss it out.

yea, this new version will have nothing on the original--probably the closest i'd ever want to see a snuff film.

I thought the original was a pretty unpleasant piece of tasteless cinema, and if the remake is anything like the original they'd do well not to bother. I enjoy trashy horror and the odd gory film, but Last House On The Left was one of the nastier movies of the era, and I couldn't honestly recommend it to anyone.
Still there's a reasonable chance a remake couldn't be any worse.
