Len Wiseman tapped to direct and produce Swamp Thing for DC Universe

The Green, an elemental life force that connects all forms of plant life on earth, has chosen Len Wiseman to executive produce DC's upcoming SWAMP THING series for DC Universe, the comic studio's planned steaming platform. In addition to his role as executive producer of the show, Wiseman has also taken root as the director of the comic book action drama's first episode. SWAMP THING is set to make its debut exclusively as a part of DC Universe, and will be based upon the characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.

The appointment of Wiseman comes as part of the filmmaker's overall with WBTV to develop, produce, and direct projects for the legendary banner. Penned by Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman, SWAMP THING revolves around Abby Arcane, the daughter of Gregori Arcane, a grotesque villain known to many as the Patchwork Man. In the comics, Abigail falls in love with Alec Holland a.k.a. Swamp Thing, and later becomes his wife. Furthermore, as a part of DC's New 52 continuity, Abigail is a representative of The Rot, a force that threatens to destroy The Green, as well as life on earth as we know it. When Abby meets Alec in SWAMP THING, she'll find that the deadly swamp-born virus she's searching for has transformed Alec into a swamp-like creature, who is forced to do battle against the horrors of The Rot that wish to destroy those who poison the natural splendor of life itself.

SWAMP THING, which is set for a 2019 debut exclusively on DC Universe comes courtesy of James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producing the new comic drama alongside Wiseman are Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. In recent times, Wiseman had also been named as the director of MCCLANE, the next film in the DIE HARD action series. Wiseman is also attached to direct the television series adaptation of SIN CITY, based on the work of comic book icon Frank Miller.

Personally, I think Wiseman is a promising pick for SWAMP THING, as he's already demonstrated his knack for helming supernatural shenanigans on screen with the contributions to UNDERWORLD, SLEEPY HOLLOW, and LUCIFER. What do you think about Wiseman bringing Swampy to the masses? Let us know in the comments section below.
