Luna loves Milk

Lucky Sean Penn. Not only does he get to work with Gus Van Sant (ELEPHANT) as the star of the upcoming Harvey Milk biopic, but now he’s got Diego Luna cast as his lover. Are you kidding me? Luna has been cast as Jack Lira, a supporter and lover of Harvey Milk, who was the first openly gay elected official in the US. In 1977, Milk was elected to San Francisco’s city supervisor’s board, and was assassinated a year later along with mayor George Moscone by Dan White, another city supervisor.

Luna joins a can’t-fail cast that includes 2007 breakouts Emile Hirsch and Josh Brolin, along with James Franco, Victor Garber, Denis O'Hare, and Stephen Spinella. I know Harvey Milk was a homosexual, but where the ladies at? You probably know Luna bestfrom his role in the Mexican hit Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, and although he didn’t breakthrough like his costar Gael Garcia Bernal, he’s been working steadily since, mainly in Mexican films and some American ones, like Spielberg's THE TERMINAL.

Extra Tidbit: Bryan Singer was also working on Milk biopic but it was suspended because of the strike.
