Matthew McConaughey defends a possibly evil Ryan Phillippe in the trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer

11.19.2010

Contrary to what the title may have you thinking, THE LINCOLN LAWYER does not have Matthew McConaughey going back to the 1800s to serve the bearded slave-freeing president. Nor is he based near the memorial in Washington DC. Or even in the capitol of Nebraska. It's all about the car.

The synopsis: Mickey Haller is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet, a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder. But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

The movie is based on the bestselling book by Michael Connelly, and has a pretty interesting cast that also includes William H. Macy, Marisa Tomei, Bryan Cranston, Josh Lucas, Michael Pena and John Leguizamo.

Extra Tidbit: Is it me or does Phillippe look exactly the same as he did a decade ago?

It's nice to see McConaughey not playing a dimwitted yet likable stud for the 20th time. Movie could go either way at this point so I'm not sure.

All hail Mathew McConaughey's return to REAL acting! Thank god, it's another romcom from him! His best performance still remains IMO A Time to Kill. Looks like playing lawyers suits him well. Very much looking forward to this.

As someone who believes Matthew McConaughey is a good actor who's made some bad choices, I'm hoping this is good. He does play sleazy attorneys really well though.

Loved the book. Didn't love the trailer. Really hoping they don't butcher this one.

Hmmmmmm......

Looks like it could be good but that trailer sucked ass. Based on that trailer, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes straight to dvd.

This looks great! Granted, I am a big fan of these lawyer books/movies, but this book was very good and this looks like an excellent adaptation with top notch talent involved.

Extra Tidbit: Ryan Philippe is the devil. He doesn't age.
