Max Landis is off Chronicle 2

Jul. 18, 2013by:

For those waiting for a sequel to CHRONICLE, I'm sure you're going to get one just don't expect to see Max Landis back on as scribe. Here's what Landis had to say on the split via Twitter:

Landis was actually incredibly humble about everything. He wanted to take the script one place and they didn't want to do that. It seems that Max's dad, John Landis let the chain of events spill when he spoke about the trouble last Fall: “He wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want ‘Chronicle’ again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business." After hearing about the remarks, Max Landis said that it was not his Father's place to talk about what had went on between his son and Fox.

I'd like to know what Landis had in store for a sequel but turns out we'll never know. Wonder who they got to replace him, and what the studio thought would be a good follow-up.

Gee Max, better call your Dad and see if he can get you another gig.

Max Landis does come across as really douchey but dammit, Chronicle was a very well-written, amazingly put-together film that was definitely a pleasant surprise. With him booted off the project, it certainly sounds like the sequel will be in a completely different tangent. I foresee Fox trying to make it into a superhero team-up flick with different groups of kids who have different powers...or something studio-ey like that.

Books and covers and all that sht

I used to think that Max Landis was nothing but a whiny fanboy - especially when it comes to anything Superman - but I've come to greatly change my opinion of him as of late. I've always loved Chronicle, but after watching a bunch of interviews with Max and the way he expresses his ideas, he really is a very humble person inside a douchebag's shell. And he knows it. He admits that the way he dresses and the way he speaks could easily infuriate anyone and he even understands why. Being in

Being in relatively the same age bracket as him, I have to give the man props for being focused and mature and driven to do what he does. It isn't easy when all you want from youth is to be free and without responsibility. Say what you will about him inheriting his success, but just know that Max is probably on the verge of becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood within the next decade or so.

Another great idea by studio heads, cause they always make great decisions.

Mixed feelings

He usually comes off like a dirty douche nozzle, but here he seems humble. He is talented though, and should adopt this tone more often. Hopefully Chronicle 2 won't suck without his input.

Not the easiest guy to like, but Chronicle was a tightly scripted movie, even if largely aided by great direction, and is disappointing that he's no longer involved, amazing how hollywood works sometimes.

I could honestly care less. My only exposure to Max Landis has been his online ramblings degrading and criticising everyone else's work in Hollywood despite the fact that he's only written one full length feature. I've never seen Chronicle, I've honestly heard nothing but good things about it though, so I assume he has talent and it's definitely on my list of movies to eventually watch. But the guy has always struck me as the epitome of rich douchebags who have this sense of entitlement

Great. Now Max Landis has more free time to talk down to everyone on the internet.

Last year Joblo reported that he wrote a treatment for a sequel and Fox voiced their displeasure against it. I guess Max stuck with his guns and eventually was let go. Fox is just a moronically run company.

Because movie studios don't truly care about the product, they only want to make money. Chronicle was successful and all the studio sees is a built-in audience of bums on seats and studios are all about the mad stacks, yo.

Another stupid decision from Fox

Here's a tip: when you have a winning formula, don't f**k with it! CHRONICLE was a great movie, and they should have stayed with the creative team that made that success happen. Not looking forward to this sequel now.

Well that's strange....

His dad always moans at the studios bout creative freedom, even though he often went over budget.

And know here's his son who really should be moaning but isn't.

Really should vice versa.

I'm curious to see what Landis has in mind for the sequel. I'm sure whenever the sequel comes out, Landis will fill us in on his story.
