Just in case all the attention given to last week's Comic Con didn't clue you in, allow me to clarify: comics are still popular. At least as source material in Hollywood.

Director John Moore (BEHIND ENEMY LINES, and THE OMEN remake I'd rather not mention) will give yet another sharp twist to the vampire legend with VIRULENTS, based on the new series from Virgin Comics. The story involves US soldiers seeking lost comrades in Afghanistan, where they encounter Indian commandos searching for terrorists. All anyone finds, however, are some decidedly vicious bloodsuckers.

The book's fresh spin on the tired vampire legend mixes Indian mythology with Lovecraftian style (check out a nifty promo video for the comic RIGHT HERE). The horror flick comes from New Regency and Fox, with writer John Cox (SGT. ROCK) handling the adaptation.

Extra Tidbit: Guy Ritchie plans to direct a flick based on his own Virgin Comics title THE GAMEKEEPER.

First, behind enemy lines and The Omen? Another vampire movie? and yes another vampire movie that's supposedly going to reinvent vampire movies... and Virgin Comics? Whatever.. still, I agree that's it could have a somewhat interesting spin having vampires in the middle of a war context and if it includes some kind of indian mythology, Ill definitely give it the benefit of the doubt
