More drama and kaiju carnage in these two new TV spots for Godzilla

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

To say that Gareth Edwards‘ GODZILLA looks awesome would be an understatement the size of the giant monster. The cast looks compelling and the story actually looks to be more than a placeholder for onscreen destruction. Everything about the latest GODZILLA teases an epic movie the likes of which we usually do not see. Hopefully it lives up to that potential.

The two latest TV spots for GODZILLA give us new looks at some footage from the film, some dramatic and some violent. Both indicate there is a heck of a lot more to the movie than we have seen to date in the theatrical trailers. In one, we listen to Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen having a phone conversation with ominous undertones. The other gives us another fleeting look at the beast while he stomps his way through bridges and cities.

In both spots, GODZILLA looks dark. Even during the brightly lit day scenes, the tone does not look to have any levity or humor to it whatsoever. To say GODZILLA looks bleak would be an understatement, but I am hoping the movie does not end up being depressing. Remember, Frank Darabont had a hand in scripting a draft of the movie and he provided us the incredibly bleak THE MIST.

GODZILLA starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, and David Strathairn hits theaters on May 16th.
