New, action-packed Bumblebee trailer assembles Autobots, Decepticons

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In the new BUMBLEBEE movie, everyone’s favorite yellow Autobot gets his very own story, which finds him teaming up with a new ally in Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld). In the new trailer for the movie a lot more light is shed on why he was sent here from his home planet of Cybertron, involving the well-known war between the Autobots and Decepticons. That means this trailer is full of action, explosions, heart, adorable humor and, what will surely make ‘80s babies go bananas, the robots in their original cartoon designs.

As you can see there will be plenty of robot-on-robot action, which does involve some robot beasties when Soundwave lets loose a wolf from his chest cavity. A sound for sore ears is the one and only Peter Cullen returning to voice Optimus Prime, with other members of the voice cast including Angela Bassett (Shatter) and Justin Theroux (Dropkick). On the human front, Steinfeld is joined by John Cena, who plays the government figure with some seemingly nefarious intentions behind finding Bee.

You can also check out the sweet international trailer, which shows even more robot awesomeness.

Even aside from the awesome robot action, there's a lot to love about this new BUMBLEBEE preview. There's a sweetness to the bond between Charlie and Bee, and the movie finds room for some humor that's sure to make the title character everyone's favorite cinematic robot, if he isn't already. Come its Christmas release the movie will surely play well with both families and TRANSFORMERS fans alike, so if the intent was to reboot the whole series with this movie, Paramount better get busy planning those future installments.

Here's a synopsis:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

BUMBLEBEE arrives December 21.
