New details and banner for The Walking Dead season 3; More Michonne!

07.06.2012

Today, AMC (via EW) released their banner for The Walking Dead season 3, which will be featured prominently at Comic Con next week.  The image features the series lead, Rick Grimes, flanked on both sides by fan-favorite Michonne and new villain The Governor.  Along with the banner, I've attached the poster without the text for your viewing enjoyment.

In addition to the new artwork, showrunner Glen Mazzara had a few things to say about the two new characters, giving us some insight into what we can expect from them in season 3.

On the setting:

“The entire landscape has fallen to zombies,” says Mazzara of the start of season 3. “The entire world has collapsed, the apocalypse has taken over, the zombies have taken over, there’s no safe place. And I think in the past our characters thought they could find some safe harbor, and now there’s just no good hiding place at all.”

On Michonne:

“Just like in the comic books, she is a badass and she hates the walkers more than anything else,” Mazzara says. “She treats them with contempt. What’s interesting about the version of this character is she has a lot of trouble fitting into human society. She’s probably better off staying out there alone with the walkers. She’ll be very interesting and a complicated character to bring into the fold, if we even do that. She gives us a lot to play with.”

On The Governor:

“David is an incredibly talented actor with a lot of magnetism,” says Mazzara, “and we need somebody who can serve as the foundation, the pillar, for an entire storyline, an entire world of Woodbury. David has the strength to do that. I also think that David’s approach to the character was spot on. He understands that this is an interesting, complex, multilayered, dark figure, and he’s very interested in playing that.”

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if some season 3 footage is shown, albeit probably not a whole lot as it is currently filming.  However, if I were a betting man, I'd put money on seeing Michonne and The Governor in action very soon, with just enough footage to get everyone amped.

The Walking Dead season 3 will return this Fall on AMC.

What is up with the boner joblo.com has for this show? Why not focus on a better show like Boardwalk Empire instead of these weekly TWD articles. Also they are gonna fuck up the Governor by giving him a lame sympathetic backstory to explain his evil rather than have him be like Joker and be a pure force of terror like he was in the comic.

I'm loving that they're including Michonne's zombie companions, I was worried they'd crap out because they're not 100% necessary, but the fact that they kept them in gives me a heart boner. I love these books, and the more they leave in the show the better.

Truly looking forward to this season of Walking Dead, probably more than any other season of TV before it in a long, long time. My major concern is that The Governor won't be as villainous as he is in the comics. He's a fantastic character in the comics, and displaying him in any less brutal of a way, I think would take away from his character, so I am hoping we get a character who is very much as inhumane as he is in the comics.

I still don't get the Governor casting.

Well...right....I guess that's not fair as I haven't seen him play the part yet, and he could be great. I guess what I really mean is I don't get the deviation from the appearance in the source material. Out of all the characters in the comic, The Governor was one with the most iconic and specific look. Either way, looking forward to Season 3, it's all good stuff.

The TV show has taken a lot of deviations, so I'm not all that surprised. It was a pretty safe bet that The Governor of the show wouldn't be the same as the one in the comics. What matters most is that they keep his brutality and inhumanity. As long as remains the same great villain we saw in the comics, then everything will be fine.
