New poster for Disney/Pixar's Brave changes your fate

02.22.2012

A new poster for Disney/Pixar's BRAVE is here, focusing on the main character of Merida with a nocked arrow and ready for a fight.

Check it out:

This looks really great to me and a much-needed break from the "sequelitis" that has plagued Pixar of late. CARS 2 was abysmal and with the recent success of TANGLED, I can see why they'd choose to go this route instead of using anthropomorphic characters or objects. It's nice to have the human element being featured in a Pixar film for a change and I'm genuinely looking forward to this.

Here's the synopsis:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In "Brave," a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson).

Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.

BRAVE opens in 2D and 3D on June 22nd, 2012.

To Maic:

Thanks for asking about the non-sequels! The original DWA films that are for sure coming out in the next two years that we should be excited about are: Rise of the Guardians, The Croods, Turbo, Me & My Shadow, and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, in that order. Followed, of course, by HTTYD 2! We just have to get through Madagascar 3...

I'll be Debbie's sister, Dana.

Pixar needs to be funny again and stop trying to be "magical and heart-warming."

Dear, Miguelito:

Not a rip off as this was announced (and pretty far into story development) before HTTYD. HTTYD was an amazing movie and there is no reason why TWO movies can't exist in Scotland. That's like saying Titanic is a rip off of Jaws because they both take place on the water or Rango is a rip off of Cowboys and Aliens because they are both westerns.

Also, this has to do with a princess and her struggles with her mother...they are using scotland as the setting. HTTYD was about dragon fighting and

Also, this has to do with a princess and her struggles with her mother...they are using scotland as the setting. HTTYD was about dragon fighting and Hiccups struggle to fit in and win his father's approval. Cars 2, yes, wasn't strong or critically acclaimed, but was much better than DreamWorks' Monsters vs. Aliens or Bee Movie. There is plenty of room for multiple studios and multiple stories. You have to, at the very least, respect each studio for doing their own thing. Pixar has announced 2 original movies in the pipeline (Dinosaurs and one that takes place in girls mind) and prequel to Monsters Inc. Other than that, it keeps everything pretty quiet until they have a story that is working and greenlit. Dreamworks has announced their intentions for a total of 8 Kung Fu Pandas, more Madagascar and 5+ total How to Train your dragons...and a Puss in Boots sequel. Jeffrey Katzenberg's philosophy has always been quantity over quality, which has proven to be very lucrative for him and the studio thus far in the short term. Long term? I won't even remember Shark Tale or Kung Fu Panda 2 in 30 years but I will remember Finding Nemo and I will show my grandkids Up in 40 years. To each studio its own. Whatever each is doing is working thus far. Cars, love it or hate it, if a 10 BILLION dollar merchandise giant for Disney. Little boys love the movies. That's their target audience...not you. But I agree, DreamWorks lineup is looking pretty, damn awesome in the new few years.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect your opinion except that you have stated, 4 months before the movie has come out, that 'it's all marketing and it sucks.' How? How do you know this? You don't. You're trolling and you're being inconsiderate of a studio that will have movies that will be watched decades from now and considered classics. You can say Pixar is boring, but their box office success (and critical and consumer success) speaks otherwise.

And if you're going to go the route of copy cats, I direct you to several books about how Jeffrey Katzenberg stole Lasseter's idea for A Bug's Life and rushed Ants into production to spite Disney after he left their studio and started up Dreamworks. He did the same with Shark Tale when finding nemo came out and tried to beat Cars to the punch with Route 66 (but that has since went away). Boo U's premise about teaching ghosts to scare is similar to Monster's Inc. in several ways, but without having seen it since it hasn't gone into production yet, we can't make judgment yet.

You could say Mega Mind was the same as The Incredibles, but they aren't even close. They may both have superheroes, but they are completely different in story. Mega Mind is similar to Despicable Me but also not the same.

Just get your facts straight when making your opinions known. That's all I'm saying, Miguelito. I respect your thoughts, but have some respect in return to the hundreds employees at all animation studios who work their butt off to bring you and millions of others around the world entertainment whether that be Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, Blue Sky, Illumination, Nickelodeon, Sony, Paramount, Reel Fx or the dozens of other studios.

Sorry to rain on the parade...

..but this looks to be one of the shittiest Dixar movies yet. Honestly, a total rip-off of How To Train Your Dragon, and a poorly executed one at that. If you're a little girl, then I understand how you could be excited about this.
I would personally rather get excited about Dreamworks upcoming slate of new movies, all non-sequels, which begin release after Madagascar 3. The 6th film in that series is How To Train Your Dragon 2 in 2014, the studios next sequel/spin-off. I encourage any

I encourage any animation fan to go on Dreamworks Animation's Wikipedia page and check out all the cool original movies they have coming out, not to mention their new studio in China where they will be producing totally original animated movies unique to China...it's exciting stuff. Sorry, Dixar is boring. This is the female alternative to Cars 2. It's all marketing, and it sucks.

You realize it takes years to make an animated movie and that this was in the work way before How to Train Your Dragon was even released ? So how could it be a ripoff ?

Antoine and Vikers, you guys sound like a pair of bright fellows so you must realise that even if Pixar had this idea before HTTYD was conceived, that it was probably 1 out of a 100 concepts that they are cooking up. So when HTTYD earned major money, Pixar decided to get in on that action by fast-tracking the very similar (at least visually) Brave.

I'm not saying Brave is gonna suck, not even that it's a rip-off, I'm just saying: no one is perfect.

To: Kill Billionair

I am a bright fella and I bet you are too so I am guessing you will be able to follow logic. I am also an animation nut and follow it closely, including development and production timelines. Brave was originally called The Bear and the Bow and was announced in spring of 2008...and doing simple math and looking at the obvious, HTTYD was released 2 years after this was announced. Brave did NOT happen BECAUSE of HTTYD as it had been being developed for years before it. Brave

As I said, if you (or anyone) are going to make a valid argument, just get your facts in line.

So Brave is a ripoff of HTTYD because they both feature characters with Scottish accents? Even though no one speaks with a Scottish accents in Norway?

Though I think it's fair to assume that due to your use of the name "Dixar" you have the mind of a child and thought HTTYD was a factual account.

I Love Pixar, and I would personally like to see them take on a big space adventure of some sort. I think it would be pretty amazing.
