New stills from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Dec. 30, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Several new images from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 have surfaced over at Empire. The new pics from Marvel's next film feature Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford, and the image of Winter Soldier holding Cap's shield is probably the best out of the bunch. He's looking pretty badass in the picture below, and I can't wait to see him battle with Captain America in the new film.

Check them out:

The two stills from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN don't feature anything we haven't already seen before, but it's still a nice, new look at Jamie Foxx's Electro. Have any of you warmed up to how the character will look in Marc Webb's film, or are you still not pleased with the design?

Take a look:

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will be released on April 4th, 2014, and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 will swing into theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Are you more excited for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER or THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2?

I'm excited for both.

I thought Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Martin Sheen all absolutely nailed it in the first one. The only real weak points for me were making the Lizard a generic, boring movie baddie and giving him a ridiculous Bond-villain plot which jarred with the tone of the rest of the movie. I'm sure Garfield, Stone and DeHaan will nail it this time too but the villains look like they'll be just as ridiculous... there will just be more of them. Still, I'm holding out hope that they'll learn from the

I thought the first Captain America was enjoyable but not amazing and I am by no means a fan of Community, but holy smokes that first trailer for Winter Soldier was something to behold. It looks like we might get another Marvel film with the same pseduo-realistic tone as the first Iron Man, and for that I am truly, unabashedly stoked.

It'll be interesting.....

to see how they approach Winter Soldier. I think the plot of the comic/cartoon is stupid (really, a bionic Bucky?), but I'm fascinated to see where they go with SHIELD and Cap. The Avengers showed a hint of it with the leadership ready to nuke NY with no regard to the people or heroes involved, so it'll be interesting to see if they take that attitude to it's logical conclusion. Without it becoming too political, they could make a great argument for security vs freedom and there doesn't have

I think they both look good. I know I'm in the minority, but I like the non Marvel Studio Marvel Movies better. After The Wolverine ans The Amazing Spider-Man, I made my decision. They feel more real, and more is at stake, even though it's always the end of the world in most Marvel ones.

I'll be honest, I hand down prefer it when studios try to take a more grounded realistic approach to their superhero properties. I have never been a fan of the Batman comics, but because of this Nolan's Bat films, the first Iron Man and X2 are my favorite superhero movies. I definitely loved the overall tone of Amazing Spider-Man and The Wolverine, and would probably like them more than most of the Marvel films, but in both of them the villains were just so over the top dumb with such

I definitely loved the overall tone of Amazing Spider-Man and The Wolverine, and would probably like them more than most of the Marvel films, but in both of them the villains were just so over the top dumb with such ridiculous mad scientist schemes that jarred terribly with the serious tone and brought down the overall quality of the movie. I was happy that, for the most part, The Dark World had a more serious, dramatic tone, but then they said the stupid scenes with Darcy that were almost as ridiculous as the last act of the Wolverine. Winter Soldier looks like it could be the most realistic, grounded Marvel film since the original Iron Man, which is why it's one of my most anticipated at this point.

I agree with you, Sony and Fox have been making some amazing comic book films lately. I absolutely loved The Wolverine and X-Men First Class, I think they're two of the best superhero movies of the last ten years.

Winter Soldier is going to be so much fun. Hell, even the trailers for the film were more action packed than some actual films. And I think it will easily be the best solo Avenger film since the first Iron Man film.

Cap

Where as I like the new spiderman, this new Cap film hits all the marks. It is like one of those weird moments where the writers seemed to take all my thoughts and translate them to the film. Make it a political thriller along the lines of the stuff Redford was doing in the 70's? check. Get Redford in it somehow to slam the last point home, and since he is the closest thing to a living Steve Rogers we have? check? blend the reality and fantasy elements together, so we have costumes and powers

Get a guy for crossbones who is more than a wrestler looking dude with no depth...a guy who can actually act and hold his own? check. Find a way to do falcon without compromising the characters integrity and spend time on his and Steve's bond, as it is so important to the Cap mythios, especially in this story? check....literally the only thing they didn't do was cast Amanda Reghetti as Sharon, since when she showed up as the agent in disguise at the end of the first Cap movie she bore an amazing resemblance to peggy...but hell, I'm still overjoyed for this one

Honestly, I'm liking everything I'm seeing of Cap 2 so far. It's pretty amazing how firm a grasp the Russo Brothers seem to have on this gigantic blockbuster, even just from the trailers, and I'm really happy it looks to be in such good hands. Also, twinge of hometown pride seeing as Chin Han (Mr. Lau from The Dark Knight and Tenzin from 2012) will be in this one too! It does seem to be on much firmer footing than TASM 2, and I was pleasantly surprised by the first movie.

About the Spiderman question

Am i the only person that feels like Spiderman movies are trying to make the villains look as lame and boring as possible,it sure feels like it as they couldn't possibly make anything look worse than the have in these new SM movies.Shit Raimi wasn't really any better.

I am with you. Ppl complained about Raimi's Goblin (I was one of them) but at least he had a fucking mask! Sandman and Venom looked perfect (they weren't handled the best, but look-wise they were cool) and Doc Ock was pretty good and handled well (best of the movie spiderman villains), but these new guys suck. Lizard - just a naked goomba - shouldn't he be like the wolf man (pants and coat), electro is a smurf, rhino is a robot (or mech I guess) and goblin is a regular guy? FAIL.

Yeah, Raimi's Green Goblin looked ridiculous and is just overall really hammy in hindsight, but Dr. Octopus looked awesome and so did Sandman. For my money Dr. Octopus is still one of the top 5 best comic book film villains.
