New trailer for Netflix’s Altered Carbon presents a sci-fi murder mystery

Imagine a world in which immortality is no longer a dream. With a technology used to upload human consciousness into new bodies, referred to as "sleeves," you can technically live forever, provided you can afford the rather hefty price tag. Taking place more than 300 years in the future, Netflix's upcoming sci-fi series Altered Carbon stars Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs, a Japanese American (Will Yun Lee) who has been dead for centuries before being brought back and placed into a new body in order to investigate the murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy). As seen in the latest trailer for Altered Carbon, which is based upon the novel by Richard K. Morgan, the person who has tasked Kovacs with solving the murder is Bancroft himself.

The official synopsis for Altered Carbon:

Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned, “on ice”, for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself.

Altered Carbon will debut on Netflix on February 2, 2018.
