Talks of a PROMETHEUS 2 hit the moment the end credits rolled for the first one, although as time goes on, that sequel seems to inch further and further from a reality. Ridley Scott is lined up to shoot THE MARTIAN next, which is looking at a November 25, 2015 release. That's all fine and dandy, but what about the slot in 2016 that 20th Century Fox made for a currently unannounced Ridley Scott project? It's been debated whether or not it could be PROMETHEUS 2 or BLADE RUNNER 2, but we know that drafts are currently being written for both. If anything, Noomi Rapace seems eager to jump back into that universe and pick up the story where it left off.

Noomi Rapace had this to say regarding her expectations for a sequel:

I know that Elizabeth Shaw wants to go to paradise. I say that in the first one. I don't wanna go back. She can't go to Earth. There's nothing left for her there really. She wants to go where they come from, those giants, those creatures. In her head that's the dark paradise. What's there? She wants answers. She wants to know. I feel like I'm sharing her curiosity but also her anger.

In regards to what threat there might be without the classic alien:

God, maybe? God or [the] devil. I don't know. I don't know where [Ridley Scott's] gonna take us but I can't wait to go there.

From the director to the two surviving leads, everyone seems to want to return and at this point it's all about getting that script locked in. As polarizing as the first film was, I think most would be fascinated to see where Elizabeth and David would venture off to and how the story would unfold now that ties with the classic Giger aliens have been cut completely. As it's been discussed previously, I really hope that the filmmakers don't lose their enthusiasm for this project. The potential is there for something new and exciting. At the very least, if PROMETHEUS 2 does happen, we'll know it was something that wasn't rushed.

Ridley Scott's next epic, EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, hits theaters on December 12.
