Pixar's Ant-Man?

09.09.2009

UPDATE - CHUD got official confirmation that the below story isn't true. Says Wright in a statement, "The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on." You can read his full statement at the link above.

Ever since the mashing together joyous union of Disney and Marvel, we've been speculating how Pixar would play into the whole merger. Once quotes like "Everyone started to get very excited, very quickly" started pouring forth from Pixar/Marvel meetings, it was further cause for celebration. But now Entertainment Weekly has a solitary line that’s causing speculation on the specifics of what could be the very first Pixar/Marvel double team.

"Marvel has thousands of characters to feed Disney's film, TV, and animation business (Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an Ant-Man movie). As Iron Man proved, they don't need to be iconic to become blockbusters."

As you may recall, Edgar Wright and his dynamic duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were at one time looking at ANT-MAN, and presumably they wouldn’t be sticking around if the project went completely CGI. As much as I love Pixar, it’s entirely possible that I love Wright, Pegg and Frost even more. That being said however, I’m just so damn interested to see what a Marvel/Pixar collaboration would look like, I wouldn’t care if they made an Armless Tiger Man movie, just so I could see what they could do.

Extra Tidbit: Yeah sure, I could see a Pixar ANT-MAN, but how would they handle a "real" superhero franchise?

This sounds good. Paul Rudd would definatley be awesome as Ant Man.

ANTMAN

PIXAR would turn this in to gold and possibly a potential franchise.

PERFECT FOR PIXAR

If ever there was a perfect Marvel property for Pixar to handle, IT IS Ant Man

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost never had anything to do with the project. It was just Wright and Joe Cornish writing it, and Wright has said that Pegg will not star, that is if he ever gets around to making the thing.

As for Pixar, I'm not really a fan of any of their flicks, although I enjoyed The Incredibles, so I would prefer that they stay away from Ant-Man.

Well, according to CHUD, Edgar Wright's still working on the film, so this seems to be just a rumor.

right direction

this is a smart idea. chances are pixar is gonna make an entertaining movie no matter what character they choose, so why not go with a hero thats not a guaranteed homerun (i.e. spiderman, the x-men). plus antman is a character that really lends himself to a pixar style movie. hopefully they can still manage to get simon pegg on board and somehow manage tie this into the avengers. Pegg already showed us in star trek that he can be great as the comic relief in an action ensemble cast

makes sense

There we go. Hopefully this is completed before avengers, and they can throw ant-man in.

WTF

Its one thing for Disney to team up with Marvel but now they're messing with Pixar! Why can't they just let eachother be and not mix the two, or three?

This would certainly make for a cool movie, but if it happens, there go any chances of him being in THE AVENGERS.

maybe pixar can do Ant-Man with the original and Wright gets Hank Pym, call it Giant-Man(?) it could work, although i find it unlikely this will happen.

Wright is the man for the job I believe. Besides Ant-Man is suppose to be part of the Avengers. It would be weird not having a real face to put on the character when they do the Avengers movie. Unless they are planning on making that in a CGI movie now. Pixar makes horrible human's in their CGI at least for me. I never thought they looked right.

no...

Pixar should stay away from Marvel product...Pixar's appeal comes mostly from their fantastic original writing, NOT their CGI...otherwise, they'd be Dreamworks.

Pixar should not be writing things to spec, but staying the course and writing original scripts.

SORRY BUT ...

... once again, why should Pixar make an Ant Man or any other superhero movie? Their stories are unique and touching, their animation is perfect, so why changing the winning formula?

I totally agree. Besides they already have a Superhero movie under their belt, they don't need to start another superhero franchise beyond Incredibles.

I would never expect Pixar to make a movie based on any of Marvels major heroes. Characters along the lines of Ant-Man are more expected because Pixar is an animation studio and they aren't going to do animated movies based on Marvel's biggest names. If they did everyone would bitch that it's not live action. Also with Ant-Man they have more creative control with him because he doesn't have a big enough fan base for people to bitch about accuracy of his storyline and I think Pixar is best when

I don't think Pixar needs to be more edgy either. Being more edgy would take away from who they are and just make them like the rest of the studios. What's special about them is they can make amazing films without alienating an age group.

I can't say no to Pixar. I just hope they do edgier content though.

Im guessing by the Extra Tidbit you were referring to The Incredibles. I think Pixar can pull off a more "serious" superhero flick with ease. I mean, they handled the situation with a miscarriage in UP quite smoothly so I am confident they will succeed with any Marvel material thrown at them.

Yeah I got the impression that they were sterile. Otherwise they wouldn't have just given up on having a baby.

Well, it was explained as a miscarriage from some of the producers of the film in one news piece. I am guessing that the news that she wouldn't be able to hold a pregnancy at all and thus why they never had children afterward.
