Precious’ sad life

PRECIOUS Probably the most buzzed about film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was the Lee Daniels directed drama PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE. It was impressive enough to win both the Grand Jury and Audience Award at Sundance and has the Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey stamp of approval – both are lending their names to “present” the film and Winfrey has gone so far as to call the movie “the next COLOR PURPLE”. The first trailer for the film recently made its way online and if you like your drama bone-chillingly sad and depressing then this is definitely the movie for you. In it, newcomer Gabby Sidibe stars as an obese, pregnant, illiterate teen suffering constant physical and emotional abuse by her mother (played by Mo’Nique) who enrolls in an alternative school in the hopes of improving life for her and her child. Seriously, have some tissue ready cause this one’s gonna hit you where it hurts.
