Ratner off War?

02.17.2009

Brett Ratner When news broke that snatch magnet fauxteur Brett Ratner was looking to direct GOD OF WAR, an adaptation of the popular game of the same name, fanboys damn near burned down the internets. But that's pretty par for the course for any project that The Rat becomes attached to. He could be doing a feature adaptation of "Joey" and people would be like "he's gonna ruin it! It was perfectly horrible already! He's just gonna make it horrible-er! He's such a douchebag cheesedick!" He's just that special kind of director who incites an instantaneous knee-jerk reaction for anything. Well, today, fanboys may be able to breath a sigh of relief as according to "Production Weekly", he's shelved his "God of War" adaptation in order to focus on his thriller with Chris Tucker and Eddie Muprhy titled TRUMP HEIST. Of course, "shelved" doesn't necessarily mean that he's off it completely. Just that he's put it on a temporary hiatus to come back to at a later date. Just saying.

Extra Tidbit: Awesome, that leaves the door open for The Rat to take on the SUPERMAN reboot! Yeah?

RESPONSE TO....

...[1] backlund
Dude, there are more than a hundred reasons why people hate this bag of puke. And being an easy target isn't one of them. The script for X-Men 3 was pretty decent. The way it was executed was horrible. Except for the scenes with Phoenix, everything looked cornier than an old 60's Superman cartoon.

[2] Tae K
... I like the way you put it, my friend. It's people with faces like Bret Ratner who make other innocent, mild-mannered civilians suddenly go on a crazy killing spree.

Bret Ratner should be quarantined for the way he looks. Lumpy pile of horseshit. I'm not saying he's ugly like Jason Vorhees or anything, he's not ugly. He just has that f*ckface look, that shitty wit and the f*ckin' annoying smile. Argh I hate him so.damn.much!

[3] The Fire Duece
...neither will I, dude. Neither will I. Let's just be happy that Fox isn't making Wolveri...oh wait, yes they are. Now I remember why I decided to not allow myself to be hyped.

I hate this piece of shit. I hate his face. I hate his movies, I hate everything about this hack director motherfucker. I'd like to take a nice peanutty shity right on his visage and then fart the rest of my bowels down his throat.

Nothing wrong to begin with? I don't even know what to say to that.

Ratner is a giant douche bucket. I will never forgive him (or FOX) for what they did to XMEN

TO BACKLUND

I think i can explain why everyone hates brett ratner.

1. it's easy to blame him for how crappy x-men 3 was. i mean, x-men 2 was AWESOME. that first scene with night crawler? an angry slash happy-wolverine? all awesomeness that wasn't recreated in X3. you have a great point about ratner not being the one to blame, but since he was the major change between X2 and X3, i say its easiest to pinpoint it all on him. Plus i bet it was his idea to make vinnie jones go "i'm the juggernaut bitch!"...

Plus i bet it was his idea to make vinnie jones go "i'm the juggernaut bitch!"... which wasn't as funny as i'd imagined it to be when i first saw it. and i bet it was also his idea to make jun tao a bad guy (yeah i refer to the asian guy as jun tao as well).

2. he looks like a douche. pure and simple. if you need proof just scroll up and look at his picture again. he looks like a guy you could beat the shit out of. or worse... he looks like the guy that always says an annoying comment whenever you feel crappiest. he just looks like "that dude". i think that no matter what he does, he will always have people hate on him just for his chubby smug face. he's rich, hangs out with super movie stars, directs big budget movies, and bangs hot girls who want to get into a movie. i think we all wish we could do that to some degree. and i'm cool with other people getting to do that. just not someone who looks like such an asshole.

3. true, he's not trying to make the Godfather with any of his movies. and i think that's the problem. until he does something great like the Godfather, he won't be respected. he'll jsut keep turning out films that make people say "i could have done that." or "i could have done bettr than that."

4. once again he looks like such a douchebag. even if i didn't know who he was or what he did. if i saw him walking down the street, i'd probably think "i bet that dude is a douchebag"

sorry brett!

I'm not sure I understand what the hatred for this guy is about. Every movie I've seen of his succeeds in doing exactly what the movie was set out to do. He's not trying to make The Godfather, for christ' sake. If someone hired you saying I want to make a buddy cop movie and we're going to center it around two famous actors, Jackie Chan and Christ Tucker, how exactly would you have made a better movie? All 3 of those movies are exactly what they should be. Funny buddy cop flicks with kung

All 3 of those movies are exactly what they should be. Funny buddy cop flicks with kung fu, and racial slurs. They are not to be taken seriously, and they were never meant to be Oscar caliber fare. So how is it that everyone seems to claim that Ratner fails with everything he does?

And X3 is the worst fanboy offender of them all. Not only is there nothing really wrong with that movie to begin with, but any complaints whatsoever about it can most likely be attributed to the script, not the direction. And the script existed before Matthew Vaughn was attached. Yet had Vaughn made it, I'm sure everyone would have thought the movie was just fine.

The bottom line is that I wish everyone would just calm down about the guy. Pretty much every movie he makes ends up being successful both with the box office and with the movie he set out to make, yet fanboys wrongly freak out at the very mention of his name.

A sigh of relief?! A sigh of relief is an understatement, dude! This is more like "Thank the Heavens and praise every God there is!" Seriously, I had four main fears concerning this adaptation; Uwe Boll, Bret Ratner, Vin Diesel, and WWE Studios (despite the fact that I'm an avid WWE fan...yeah call it bullshit and fake, whatever, it's good entertainment). Now that Ratner's off it...I'd like to see someone like Snyder or Spielberg or *fingers crossed* Peter Jackson show some interest. Make it in

I can wait the wait.

I feel kinda (sorta [tiny bit]) sorry for the Rat only in that he's taken SUCH a bad rap. Then again, when fanboys are concerned, mediocre just isn't okay. There are truly horrendous directors out there, but while I'm no scholar, I think he may not be one of them. He's just a guy who makes movies that are so-so and bring in the bucks, which keeps his backers happy, which keeps Hollywood happy, which means he can get his pick of projects. I still almost think he should make that "Guitar Hero"

Interesting

Yeah I don't like this guy either. On the other hand, this news of him directing a movie with Murphy and Tucker pees my interest. I'm one of the few fans of comedy that has not given up on Eddie Murphy, I still think he has at least one more funny movie left in him.

I had heard he'd be doing a movie with Chris Rock, which would probably be better, but Tucker will be cool. I hope.
