Reese joins Brooks

Reese Witherspoon has moved from one high-profile writer/director to another. After filming on the Cameron Crowe flick DEEP TIKI with Ben Stiller was delayed, Witherspoon has signed on to star in HOW DO YOU KNOW?, an upcoming dramedy from the legendary James L. Brooks. While a younger generation might know Brooks only from the end credits of “The Simpsons” or the unfortunate Adam Sandler film SPANGLISH, the man has a truly impressive resume that includes BROADCAST NEWS, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT and AS GOOD AS IT GETS (not to mention “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Taxi”). Nothing is known about the plot of the film but Witherspoon is just one of three leads in the film with the other two still casting. The official party line is that with TIKI getting pushed to July, Reese would have enough time to do both films but Crowe might just recast (remember delays caused Crowe to recast Ashton Kutcher with Orlando Bloom for ELIZABETHTOWN). Somewhat coincidentally, Brooks produced two of Crowe’s most famous films – JERRY MAGUIRE and SAY ANYTHING. Witherspoon can be seen in FOUR CHRISTMASES and next March in MONSTERS VS. ALIENS.
