Robert DeNiro and Luc Besson’s Malavita is no longer a thriller but rather an action comedy

Luc Besson’s next film has rounded out an impressive cast to support Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Tommy Lee Jones.

MALAVITA, which we previous reported as a thriller, now looks to be more of an action comedy. The story follows the Manzonis, a notorious mafia family who gets relocated to Normandy, France under the witness protection program. While they do their best to fit in, old habits die hard and they soon find themselves handling things the “family” way.

Joining DeNiro, Pfeiffer, and Jones are GLEE’s Diana Agron and John D’Leo. Filming will take place this summer and is the movie is expected to be released next year.

I have liked Luc Besson since before THE FIFTH ELEMENT. He seems to be the French equivalent of Guillermo Del Toro since he is involved in tons of projects and sometimes helms movies himself. There is a distinct tone and style to his work that I like. Hopefully this teaming of DeNiro with a mafia storyline and comedic elements will end better than ANALYZE THIS.
