Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have started production on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Apr. 12, 2012by: Niki Stephens

SIN CITY fans the moment you have been waiting for has arrived, well, one of the moments.

A press release has come through the pipes announcing that production will begin on Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. Excerpts from the press release are below:

The first question I am always asked is When will you make another Sin City? , said Rodriquez. I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.

"Sin City creator, screenwriter and co-director Frank Miller said, The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.

"The script and details of the films story have been kept tightly under wraps. Casting will begin next week, with many of the original cast expected to return. The film, a Quick Draw Production, will be produced by Rodriguez and producing partners Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic; and by Alexander Rodnyansky and Sergei Bespalov and Stephen LHereux. Miller, The Weinstein Companys Harvey and Bob Weinstein and Miramaxs Adam Fields will act as executive producers. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was developed by Frank Miller based upon his graphic novel, with a screenplay by Frank Miller and Academy Award winner William Monahan (The Departed). The film is expected to begin production this summer at Rodriguezs Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas."

"Audiences have been clamoring for Sin City 2 with Robert and Frank for a long time and trust me, it will be worth the wait, said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. This will be my 11th collaboration with Robert in 16 years and hes become a great friend. I look forward to continuing our long lasting relationship and partnering on more projects in the future.

i could not be more excited. what makes me laugh is for years people have said bring us sin city 2, now that its a possibility people are like screw it you took too long. you know what kills movies more then budget, stars, plot etcc. its you fans you get whiny and kill the support for the character. you killed a doomsday movie, you killed a spiderman 4, and a batman film. now you're doing the same for sin city. get off your high horse and be happy its finally happening

Hope Mickey comes back. A shame Brittany Murphy can't reprise her role. That's what happens when you don't follow through in a timely fashion though.

I sure hope Jessica Alba shows up again to grace the screen with her characteristic PG entertainment. It fit right in the first time! To be fair, with acting chops like hers there is no need to do nudity (even when the production otherwise slavishly sticks to the source material).

Bah.

Wait...when did Alba learn to act? Because I've never seen it. And my eyes aren't even crossed like hers are.

Screw it. I'm greenboxing it. I'm gonna say it's gonna happen and that it's gonna be awesome. It'll probably blow up in my face and I'll end up killing someone or something, but I'm doing it. It's gonna be awesome. Why the hell not.

Mickey Rourke

With his relapse into straight-to-DVD turds, I *REALLY* hope Rourke takes this role and doesn't get into another fight over salary (he left two very promising productions, including the upcoming Martin McDonaugh film, because they wouldn't pay him enough).

Rourke really stole the first flick. Without him in the sequel I will lose interest, to be frank.

I also woulda been WAY more hyped up about this if it were a couple years after the first film came out (which I loved), but I've been

Is this 2007?

When the credits roll when this movie is over i will believe it. Hell we live in a day in age where movies get made and sit on shelves for years at a time. He could very well make this movie in 12 weeks and a trailer could be shown 5 months from now. Guess what though? They could shelve it just because and than we are going to be reading stories about a release date instead of when production is going to start. If this film was that hot to get made and into the theaters it would've been made

Interesting news, give me stories about films that you know as well as I have the support, funding, and focus of coming out in the near future and not fucking pipe dreams of 'production start'

After 7 years...

...he's finally getting the ball rolling, and I heard Mickey Rourke won't come back for Marv. I also heard from RR (via SXSW coverage) that MACHETE KILLS will be made before SIN CITY 2 will come....food for thought.

If this is the real deal, I don't get how anybody could not be giving this a positive? I wouldn't trust Rodriguez, but I would trust Weinstein. The guy isn't going to say something's going to happen without knowledge that it IS going to happen.

"...expected to begin production this summer at Rodriguezs Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas."

So basically it's in *PRE*-Production.

..the SAME pre-production that Rodriguez claimed, in June 2007, he was just finishing up w/, and again in February 2010...like ElderPredator also said: I'll believe it when I see it.

Like always...

Until a high-capacity memory card is loaded into a digital camera for filming, I'll believe it when I see it.
