Ron Howard is heading back to space, and he's bringing his APOLLO 13 team with him. Deadline is reporting that the filmmaker will helm SEVENEVES, an adaptation of author Neal Stephenson’s sci-fi novel of the same name. Howard will also produce the Skydance movie alongside Brian Grazer through their Imagine Entertainment banner, while Bill Broyles has been tapped to write the script.

Stephenson's book centers on "a catastrophic event that renders Earth a ticking time bomb, and nations band together to devise a plan to ensure the survival of humanity in outer space. Five thousand years later, their progeny — seven races now 3 billion strong — embark on another audacious journey to an alien world utterly transformed by cataclysm and time: Earth."

Based on its Wikipedia page, it sounds like the scope of the book is huge, and as a big fan of Howard's work, I'm very interested in seeing what he will do with the adaptation.

Howard is currently doing post-production work on his third Tom Hanks-led Robert Langdon film INFERNO, which will arrive in theaters on October 28, 2016.
