Ron Perlman says he'll never stop trying to get Hellboy 3 made

06.16.2014

I'm an unabashed Guillermo del Toro whore, and BLADE 2 and HELLBOY were detrimental in starting that crazy love affair. Those films were the gateway drugs that led me to the heroin that is THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE and PAN'S LABYRINTH. As enjoyable as HELLBOY and HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY are on their own, they were very obviously building up to something big. The films themselves didn't break any records (grossing $99 and $160 million respectively), so getting a HELLBOY 3 is an uphill battle. That's not stopping Ron Perlman from trying to make it happen, as he said in a recent red carpet interview.

In regards to whether or not he would like to see the Hellboy series continue:

I'd like to not keep it going. I'd like to finish it, though. I'd like for there be a third film because the first two films set up for a huge resolve, and he (Guillermo del Toro) already understands what that resolve will kinda look like. He gave me a rather broad stroke sketch of what the third film would look like, and it's so epic. It's so deserved by the fans who hung in there for the first two, that I really feel as though it's essential that we make it. So, I fight for it every day. Sometimes I'm the only voice, and sometimes there are others, but I'm never gonna stop trying to get Hellboy 3 made.

If any of you own HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY on Blu-ray/DVD, check out the making of that flick. There are not many big-budget films that are passion projects, but everyone involved with that movie busted their ass to get it done. The film has half the budget that films of those size usually have, and del Toro and crew did a bang-up job of making every frame look gorgeous. I sincerely hope that Perlman isn't the only one fighting to get this film done, as I feel del Toro would deliver something truly special to close out the trilogy.

I've been waiting for HB3 for six years now!

Ron Perlman is perfect as Hellboy, and Del Toro's prostetics over CGI attitude is very likeable. The movies themselves are funny, action-packed, visually stunning, and full of great monsters. Bring on the third one already!

The two films we've had happened because Guillermo del Toro is a fan of the comics and was happy to work closely with creator Mike Mignola, and you can tell because even though they differ considerably from the comics, the movies have that authentic feel you generally only get when the movie makers really care about the characters and stories they're telling. I doubt we'd get another one without del Toro's input, but I'd love to see the trilogy completed.

Ya know. I used to hate the first Hellboy and never bothered with the second movie for a long time. The reason was, that I caught it when it came out, with a double feature at a drive-in of Kill Bill Vol. 01 (the movie that my friends and I wanted to see). We were so eager for Kill Bill, that we didn't have interest in Hellboy, and kind of threw it by the wayside, because we were "bored" of it. A few years later my dad had praised the two movies, and I continued to knock them, without giving

Finally, I decided to marathon the two movies, along with the two animated movies, and I must say; I had a blast watching them. I'm really hoping we do get a Hellboy 3, if anything to cap off the series.

Yes, I really want Hellboy 3. I really want Del Toro to direct it, but if he doesn't I'm slowly coming to terms that it may be ok for someone else to direct the third movie just so we can have some conclusion. I would pick Neill Blokamp as my first choice.

It needs to happen

love the first two, and I don't mind the small changes because the heart of the character is there, and there is obviously so much love for the source material. They need to complete it, include Lobster Johnson and release all three (and the two animated films) in a case shaped like his stone hand

Let me hate on this

Am I the only one who hated these movies? I loved the comics and everything leading up to the release of the first movie had me super pumped. Great casting, passionate (if overated) director, bts was looking great, then I saw the movie and my heart sank. Totally butchered Mignola's orginal story! Kronen, the silent assassin (wtf!), Hellboy having milk and cookies with some kid while he pines for love?! No, no and no. Dont even get me started on the sequel.

hellboy 3 needs to be made when all this other crap is being pushed out every week on the cinema but i do understand good art can't be forced. we want it to come in its own time if anything at all. i just hope when it does happen its not too late.

Would really welcome a third Hellboy. Perlman really has that character down.

It's great to see how enthusiastic Perlman is about a Hellboy 3 but it should only happen if del Toro wants it to happen. He's the one who made the series what it is. If it got greenlit with a different director all this fighting for it would be pointless.

Same thing with Whedon and a sequel to Serenity. He's a lot more powerful now because of Avengers and still hasn't really pushed for a Serenity follow-up. Nobody wants sequels to either of these things if the person who made it so great isn't interested.

Hellboy 2 sucked monkey nuts

If Hellboy 3 is to be made, it needs to be a hell of a lot better than the mess that was Hellboy 2. Hellboy 2 was boring, had one of those trite plots and had nothing going for it.

The first two Hellboy films are a couple of the most underrated comic book films of recent and Ron Perlman is argurably one of the best examples of perfect casting for a superhero or villain.

If getting a Hellboy 3 meant no Pacific Rim 2, I would be perfect fine with that.

We're with you all the way, Red. I mean, Joss Whedon managed to get Serenity off the ground. Hellboy 3 isn't impossible.

The Superior Sequel

I would love a Hellboy 3. The Golden Army definitely belongs on the list of sequels that surpassed the original, and I would love to see it finish the story in an amazing epic way.

Instrumental... not detrimental

Also, man I hope this happens. The Hellboy movies are great fun, and personally I'd rather see Hellboy 3 than Pacific Rim 2 (though both would be nice).

Detrimental, given the negative connotation to being a whore and doing drugs (all tongue in cheek, mind you). ;) I loved Pacific Rim, but I agree I'd like a Hellboy 3 more.
