Ronda Rousey and The Raid's Iko Uwais to star in buddy cop movie Mile 22

03.02.2015

When you hear the term "buddy cop" movie, you likely instantly think of LETHAL WEAPON or maybe RUSH HOUR. The common thread is it is usually a straight, by the books cop and a funny partner. Or, at the very least, it is one partner who is a cop and another who has a special set of skills like martial arts or being undead. There are very few examples of both cops being adept martial artists but that seems about to change as THE RAID's Iko Uwais is set to team up with UFC fighter Ronda Rousey for the action flick MILE 22.

LONE SURVIVOR director Peter Berg is set to produce the movie that sounds pretty cool if not a little direct to Redbox.

The film explores the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption.

Peter Berg issued a statement about the film saying he wants to evoke the same type of action seen in Gareth Evans' RAID movies. While Uwais is currently working on Evans' next film, BLISTER, as fight choreographer as well as a role in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Rousey has worked in THE EXPENDABLES 3 and the upcoming FURIOUS 7. Both actors are very hot right now and this seems like it has the potential to be a fun movie. For all the crap Berg gets because of BATTLESHIP, the guy has done good work with action scenes going back to THE RUNDOWN.

There is no word on when production will begin on the Graham Roland-scripted film or who is directing, but expect to see it begin shooting this year. Rousey seems ready for her next challenge after that quick fight over the weekend.

Rousey & Uwais are awful actors. If the action scenes are wasted,it's gonna be a mess.

Talk about an unlikely duo. If done right, this will be spectacularly good.

This, if done correctly, could be the most awesomely epic kick ass movie ever made! Rousey is a bad ass (and sexy as hell) and The Raid movies (starring Uwais) are amazing.. i will be following this movies production closely... it will all lay on WHO they get to direct this!

Anybody wanna bet that Gareth Evans picks this up and turns this into "The Raid 3"?

Whether he should and whether he will, a little different.

Easy. NO BULLSHIT, CRINGE INDUCING, EYE ROLLING, CGI WIRE WORK FIGHT SCENES!! Lets start with that FIRST.

Not every asskicker needs to be a 'superhero'! Just good ol' fashioned clever camera angles and well rehearsed choreography accompanied by slick editing.

John Wick, anyone?

I agree. John Wick proves to us that with stable camera work (instead of shaking camera every second) you will have a decent action movie that surprised everybody.

Peter Berg actually gives me hope this isn't some cheapie Redbox. As said, the two are hot, I have a weakness for buddy cop movies (2 Guns was a decent throwback, but I digress). MMA fighters are a dime a dozen, no offense to Ms. Rousey (who I hope proves the exception), but Iko Uwais has developed enough of a following that his involvement should suggest at least the potential for above-average action (really, this is where the director and choreographer can make a big difference). On a side

On a side note, last year I saw some damn good action movies, a rarity today. While I have no idea if this movie will meet that standard, it's fun to hope that that trend continues (we already got Kingsmen this year). By now I'm just rambling. And I'm done.
