Rounding up the Cars 2 easter eggs!

Jul. 5, 2011by:

Part of the fun of any Pixar movie is watching it again and again to find all the easter eggs hidden within each film. The artists there are so detailed they always leave fun little things hidden for the most dedicated of viewers. Even though CARS 2 is still in theaters, we've already got a little cheat sheet on how and where you can spot some of the secrets!

In each Pixar movie there is a reference to A113, which is the classroom that CARS 2 director John Lasseter (along with other Pixar vets Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter) studied in at CalArts. In CARS 2, A113 is both on Mater's license plate and is the registration number of Siddeley, the spy jet.

- While still in Radiator Springs, Mater and Lightning McQueen drive past a movie theater that's playing "The Incredimobiles."

- Another item that makes an appearance in every Pixar film is TOY STORY's Pizza Planet truck. Given that this is a car-based movie, it makes a few appearances. It's both a guest on the "Tire Talk" TV program and later in Radiator Springs as Mater takes his rocket-propelled victory lap.

- Pixar likes to hid characters from future films in each of their current films (Dug was in RATATOUILLE and Lotso was in UP) and while you might think it was tricky, they found a way to fit in some characters from BRAVE. When the Lemons crash into "Ye Left Turn Inn" during the London sequence, keep an eye out for some familiar BRAVE faces that have been, well, "car-ified."

- Directors of the film, John Lasseter and Brad Lewis, both voice characters in CARS 2. Lasseter voices Jeff Gorvette's crew chief and the car gambling with the fuzzy dice. Lewis voices Tubbs Pacer, one of the film's bad guys.

- When there is an overhead shot of Paris, you can see a restaurant named "Gastow's," a reference to RATATOUILLE's "Gusteau's."

- While in London, you can briefly see an ad for "Lassetyre" brand tires.

- The character of Flo was originally intended to have her own cooking show in the film before that subplot was cut. But during some sequences in Radiator Springs, you can still see the set outside the V8 Cafe.

If you found any that we haven't listed here or have any photos we missed, let us know and we'll add it here!

In all seriousness, I'm hoping that one day this site will become more impartial in these animated matters...longtime dreamworks fan, and longtime joblo visitor. sorry if my comments seem inflammatory but they are heartfelt. i havent seen cars 2 and im not going to. that being said i'll try to refrain from commenting on how shitty i think Pixar is. these discussions will be alot less interesting tho

I'd like to know how you think about Pixar. I think outside of Toy Story 1-3, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc, the studio has put out some movies ranging from not good (Cars) to so-so (Wall-E) to overrated (Finding Nemo). I think you'll find some like minded individuals on here.

As a huge Pixar fan, I can appreciate your input. I mean most of the time it is pretty retarded but sometimes you can throw in a valid point. Do not refrain. You have an opinion like anyone else and you have the same right as everyone else to share it.

And nothing of value was lost.
But you're right, "Even when it's shitty, if it's a Pixar film, you had better believe it's gonna get its dick sucked on Joblo.com" seems very heartfelt.

Though it is Pixar's weakest , it's still a fun action oriented animated movie. Most of Dreamwork's and Blue Sky's catalogue are still MILES below Cars 2 in terms of quality. It didn't have the emotional pull the rest of their films have, but it was still HIGHLY entertaining. I'd rather watch Cars 2 than another god awful Ice Age, Shrek, or Madagascar.

That being said, I am glad that Pixar still put all of their refrences in! I only noticed the Gasteau's refrence, though I kept looking

Lightyear

In the background of one establishing shot there is the Goodyear Blimp but instead of Goodyear it says Lightyear.

Okay wtf is your problem? I understand not liking Pixar films as much as everyone else but to say it "gets it's dick sucked" when all you do is suck Dreamworks dick. Cars 2 wasn't a bad movie. It was on par with Kung Fu Panda 2 imo. Not their best, but still VERY entertaining. So my question to you is why do you hate Pixar so much? Why the simple name make you so angry?

I have to agree with you. I hate how every time a Pixar movie is out people have to go out of their way to suck its dick.

Miguelito's mother was to busy turning tricks to pay rent and could not take him to see Toy Story when he was a young lad. Everyone was talking about it the next week at school and had the cool merchandise. He has hated PIXAR ever since. True Story. He told me yesterday.

Does he really need to say why he didn't like the movie? The RT rating does that for him. The consensus is that Cars 2 is a bad film. It's certainly the Pixar movie with the least sequel potential. This is a cash grab. Nothing more.

These responses and constant thumbs down only go to show that the Joblo community is on the same page as Joblo.com when it comes to Pixar films.

Just because they made a bunch of good movies in the past, doesn't give them a free pass when they make a dud.
