Saoirse Ronan says she will not star in Star Wars: Episode VII or The Fantastic Four

11.06.2013

Saoirse Ronan has gone ahead and updated the news that she had auditioned for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII with the information that she in fact did not win the role. Back in October, Ronan revealed she went for a lead role in the anticipated sequel but with the disclaimer that most of Hollywood's young and desirable had as well.

In an interview with IndieWire, Ronan had this to say:

"I don't have STAR WARS. I don't have the role," Ronan said, sounding kind of defeated. "I just shouldn't have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did." When we asked about the audition process, she said, "To pretend that you have a lightsaber in a scene is always very exciting. It would be great. But it's something that everyone's gone up for."

I like Ronan quite a bit and she proved in HANNA that she can kick some ass, but I am hoping that J.J. Abrams fills STAR WARS: EPISODE VII with unknowns so as to not draw away from the story at hand. Having a few big names for villainous roles and supporting parts alongside the original stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford should be more than enough to allow the primary parts to be played by newly discovered talent.

Ronan went on to say that the other high profile film she has been linked to, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, is also a rumor and she has not been in the running for that movie. Of course, Josh Trank's reboot could still be on the table and she could be playing it smooth since she learned the rumor mill for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII played havoc in the media.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens sometime in 2015.

I'm not too bummed. Most directors that have worked with Soairse have spent sooo much camera time on her face (which is admittedly stunning). Maybe we've avoided seeing reflections of light saber fights in her eyes because JJ couldn't look away. Hehe, while she gives a monotone voice over. A good one of course (I like Saoirse).

Great disappointment

I Shouldn't have latched on to the rumor, really, but even just seeing the Star Wars logo over that promotional image for The Host makes the pre-prequels Star Wars fanboy in me well up in a way I haven't felt in a decade.

too bad was hoping she would get the lead.

Still I trust they'll make the right choice with whomever they end up casting.

She won't get casted as Sue Storm because she is not African American.

Please, let's not start this. Just because Johnny is black doesn't mean Sue has to be. Is it shocking to have two siblings that aren't the same race?

She's a great actress, her How I Live Now director Kevin Macdonald called her "the Meryl Streep of her generation" and I don't think that's hyperbole. Would have been great to see her in Star Wars but I'm glad she's not Sue.

This is unfortunate. This would have been a really good fit.

Shouldn't have said anything about the audition girl. I would have liked to see her in the role though.

maybe she'll still get it

and plus she is pretty much an unknown. Maybe movie buffs know who she is but she is far from being known in the public eye. The Host was her ticket to the mainstream, but no one saw it and it didn't become the next teen/tween sensation like [link] Games. I think she's got the right type of exposure, she's proven herself, that she can kick ass and is talented, but isn't so recognizable and exposed (like say a Jennifer Lawrence)... I highly doubt most of the public would know who she is

If they passed her up

We should get someone better because Ronan kicks ass and I think she would have been a nice addition to the cast of characters. I am afraid we are going to get a crappy actress who looks good though for marketing proposes. Not to knock Ronan because she is very attractive in my opinion.

Hmmm

She could make a good Sue Storm if they adapt more closely to the Ultimate Universe.
