Scrooge sneak peek

05.21.2009

In all honesty, I haven't been all that crazy about the things I've seen out of DISNEY'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL (but then again I'm still not sold on mocap animated films). I saw some things at ShoWest that didn't turn me off completely but did give me pause. This new footage, however, from the syndicated TV show "Backlot Buzz" kinda sells me on the project a little bit. Just seeing Carrey get into character helps ease me into the film. I'm not ready to jump up and down UP-style but I'm certainly eager to see more from the film (and I'll likely do just that with the 3D trailer before UP). Take a look at the footage below and let me know what you're thinking about this.

Extra Tidbit: I'm sorry but I'll always be partial to "Mickey's A Christmas Carol" with Scrooge McDuck.

I'm gonna be honest here, there's not one single 'A Christmas Carol' movie that's actually realy good. So I don't mind this version is coming.

Word is that the scènes in Cannes were (I'm gonna steal their words) 'stunning', 'promising' and 'brought with a wonderfull depth'.

All the flaws that made 'Polar Express' (the creepy wooden persons) and 'Beowulf' (the empty eyes and digital copies of the actors) fail, are gone now.

If you have motion capture that seems to be amazing and you

If you have motion capture that seems to be amazing and you have Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman doing some roles ... that's gold.

I doubt even Disney can bring anything much to this worn-out old chestnut. I'm a huge fan of the George C. Scott version, myself, and I know everybody has their own favorite version of the story, but there needs to be about a 10 year moratorium on A Christmas Carol in film, television, and stage. Seriously.

The movie looks promising. I wasn't expecting Jim Carrey to play the ghosts as well...should be interesting.

BTW, my favorite Christmas Carol is the Muppet's Christmas Carol...hands down, best Scrooge goes to Michael Caine! :D
