Shane Black’s The Predator comes to DVD/Blu-ray in December

20th Century Fox has announced that director Shane Black's THE PREDATOR is coming home for the holidays, as the film will be availabe on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD just in time to be placed in gift bags this December. Written by Black and Fred Dekker (the duo who wrote THE MONSTER SQUAD together), THE PREDATOR is a sequel to the 1987 sci-fi action classic PREDATOR. This one stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, and Olivia Munn, with Jake Busey in a small role as the son of the character his father Gary played in PREDATOR 2.

The official synopsis: 

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

THE PREDATOR reaches Digital and Movies Anywhere on November 27, with the physical copy release following on December 18. In addition to a solo release, the film will also be included in a special edition PREDATOR 4-Movie Collection with PREDATOR, PREDATOR 2, and PREDATORS.

With the special edition Predator 4-Movie Collection, fans can experience four times the terror with a killer collection of action-packed Predator movies, plus four collector cards of the original film poster re-issue with some of the franchises most iconic quotes on the back. In Predator, Arnold Schwarzenegger wages an all-out war against an extraterrestrial that hunts humans for sport. Then in Predator 2, Danny Glover battles the fearsome creature in the urban jungle of Los Angeles. In Predators Adrien Brody leads a group of elite warriors on an alien planet targeted by a new Predator breed. Finally, in The Predator, Boyd Holbrook discovers that the most lethal hunters in the universe are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever.

I had high hopes for THE PREDATOR when it was first announced, but I found the finished film to be underwhelming. While I enjoyed the banter between the characters, I didn't like the stuff with the Predator itself all that much – which is an issue in a PREDATOR movie. I don't get why filmmakers keep thinking they need to introduce "bigger, badder Predators", as if the original species isn't badass enough.

It's well known that THE PREDATOR underwent reshoots to almost completely change the third act. The result is a messy and rushed ending, and while watching it I couldn't help but think that the original ending had to be better than what they replaced it with. I hope the entire original third act will be included in the deleted scenes.
