The Grudge

Sony has announced the release date for THE EYES OF MY MOTHER director Nicolas Pesce's reboot of JU-ON / THE GRUDGE. Produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert through their company Ghost House (as the 2004 version of THE GRUDGE was), the new film is scheduled to reach theatres on August 16, 2019.

Filming on the reboot begins next month, with Andrea Riseborough in the lead role of "a single mother who's also a police detective."

The reboot doesn't have an official synopsis at this point, but there is simple description of the JU-ON / GRUDGE concept:

A mysterious and vengeful spirit marks and pursues anybody who dares enter the house in which it resides.

Riseborough is joined in the cast by Demian Bichir, John Cho, and Lin Shaye.

I've never been a fan of THE GRUDGE in any of its iterations, but I am curious to see what Pesce is going to do with this new take on the material.

Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman are executive producing the reboot for Good Universe. Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Middleton, and Andrew Pfeffer also serve as executive producers. Romel Adam is overseeing the project for Ghost House while Brady Fujikawa does the same for Good Universe.

Ghost House and Good Universe previously collaborated on DON'T BREATHE.
