Pedro Almodovar Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the North American rights to Pedro Almodovar's latest effort, BROKEN EMBRACES, marking their tenth collaboration with the celebrated Spanish filmmaker. The film, which is currently filming on location in Madrid and the Canary Islands and is being shot in a film noir style, re-teams the director with Penelope Cruz in a story that centers on a four person love quadrangle and apparently "touches on many genres" including thriller. So it's a romantic thriller drama film noir? Awesome. Almodovar regulars Lluis Homar and Blanca Portillo also star. The idea for the film was apparently "partly inspired by a series of migraines that rendered him ultra-sensitive to bright lights." Spooky.

Extra Tidbit: This is the fourth time Almodovar and Cruz are working together.

This guy is brilliant in any language!

I'm glad to hear about this. Ever since I saw the amazing films "All about my mother" & my personal favorite "Live Flesh" I have tried to see everything he's done. His last "Volver" although good, isn't great despite the Oscar Nom for Penelope Cruz. Those other two are absolutely fantastic especially "Live Flesh." Please watch those and become fans. I forgot to mention the very disturbing excellently acted flick "Talk to Her." Got to see that one too, it won the Oscar for best original

So get over having to read subtitles because Yeah, it's that good.
