Spoilers: Description of the Hulk vs Hulkbuster scene from Age of Ultron

03.13.2015

Avengers: Age of Ultron Joss Whedon Robert Downey Jr. Mark Ruffalo Elizabeth Olsen

A new clip from AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON was shown yesterday during Disney's annual shareholder meeting, and it was the Hulk vs Hulkbuster scene. It probably won't be be released online, but luckily Stitch Kingdom was there, and they have shared a detailed description of the sequence. The clip apparently teased how Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark suits up in the Hulkbuster armor and why he's fighting Hulk, and the site's report also has some of the dialogue from the movie. Scroll past the image below to get to Stitch Kingdom's spoilery scene description from AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.

"Hulk no like metal man! He spoiled House of Cards for Hulk!"

Hulk vs Hulkbuster

The scene opens with an armored police vehicle arriving on the scene. An incredibly angry and destructive Hulk is witnessed tearing up the streets, destroying cars and spreading all-out panic. Police, heavily armed with machine guns, openly fire on the Hulk to no avail. In the distance comes Iron Man, flying at super speed to the scene. ‘Hold your fire,’ he commands to the responding teams below. He is flanked by large metal objects that speed along through the air with him, keeping up every step of the way. We cut back to the menacing Hulk and all of a sudden, a large steel (?) surfboard-shaped object slams itself down in the pavement in front of him. Then another. And another. Before you know it, Hulk is trapped inside a giant, solid metallic ‘box.’ At least, that is, until Hulk smashes free and then continues his rampage. And then, it assembles — piece by piece — the Hulkbuster, almost in Mark 42 fashion. ‘The witch is messing with your brain,’ Stark tells Hulk. ‘You’re smarter than her, you’re Bruce Banner.’ This yields an even angrier response from Hulk and it’s on. Hulkbuster vs. Hulk. The Hulkbuster usually seems to have the upper-hand, as they drag each other through the streets, tearing up the pavement. At least until Hulk ends up on the Hulkbuster’s back, impaling the shoulder with a traffic light pole. ‘Dick move, Banner’ responds Stark as they continue to fight. Then the damaged pieces of the Hulkbuster fall off and are quickly replaced with new parts. Different parts. And now Hulkbuster is atop Hulk, Stark treating Hulk’s head as a punching bag, literally pounding Hulk’s head into the pavement over and over and over (much to the amusement of the audience). ‘Sleep, go to sleep’ chants Stark, but spoiler alert: it doesn’t work. Then, one of the replaced parts of the Hulkbuster, the arm missing a hand, wraps itself around Hulk’s arm and sucks him in and Iron Man takes flight, toting Hulk by the arm.

So the scene description pretty much confirms that Hulk and Iron Man are trading blows due to a hex from Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, which may disappoint some fans, but I'm just fine with that being the reason why the Science Bros. are kicking the shit out of each other. It's going to be one hell of a scene to see on the big screen, and will likely be one of - if not the - highlight of the Marvel movie.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1, 2015.

This is pretty well how I figured it would go, that Scarlet Witch had control of Hulk, so really not a "spoiler" for me, just possible confirmation that my theory was right.
That aside, the Hulk Buster armour was designed to face off against, wait for it, The Hulk...so why people seem to think Stark stands zero chances against Hulk seems...well kinda self defeating. My guess is Stark and Banner worked on the suit together anyway, so it would make sense that they put as much into it as a

The assumption that the Hulk can't really be defeated is carryover from the comics. The comics Hulk can be tricked and can be beaten if transformed back to Banner but, with few exceptions, can't really be put down permanently in a fight. His strength, as you probably know, increases in proportion to his anger and has no finite limit. He doesn't tire, can't really be hurt (and heals rapidly if he does get hurt) and only gets stronger the longer a fight drags on. Hard to beat.

It's never really been made clear if the internal logic of the MCU is entirely the same as the Earth-616 Marvel comics universe though. I guess it would NOT be the same given that they can't use mutation as a force in the MCU; though using the same mythology with a different name for mutation would work just as well. It's never been stated definitively as far as know.

Call me a cynic but -

Dude destroyed a space worm weighing probobly several hundred tons with a single blow. But Iron man in a slightly bigger suit can hold his own. Yeah.

when did he destory the space worm in a single blow? the "i'm always angry" scene? he blocked the (falling) space worm and then iron man shot missiles into it's open wound.

I felt like the Hulk's potential wasn't realized in the last Avengers movie. Due to his power and the damage he can deal, none of the other Avengers can rival Hulk's power except maybe Thor. But Iron Man is the public's favorite so they have to make it seem like he can stand up to the Hulk. Bottom line, Hulk should be more than able to turn the Hulkbuster into a hunk of metal. If it turns out the Hulk loses this match, there's no way I'll go see this movie.

But... won't you be watching the movie when you find out who wins? If Iron Man wins... will you seriously walk out of the theatre? It will be that much of an insult?

The Hulk-buster armor is a fan favorite and has been for a long time. In the comics, Hulk gets beat by everyone and their mom, so why it surprises you is confusing to me. I get the point but this is Tony Stark and he designed the suit specifically to counteract the Hulk so either he beats him or he pushes Hulk to a previously unseen strength level. Either way if Tony was able to make the metal similar to vibranium/CA's shield/adamantium, then Hulk would hardly be able to bend it, much less turn

RichterJet I said "if it turns out" which means if I hear from a friend or read about unfavorable outcome, then I won't see it.

Mr. Mambo .... Wolverine is made of adamantium and the Hulk ripped Wolverine in half. So yeah, The Hulk does not get beat by everyone :/ The Hulk is one of the most powerful characters. And he would/should tear that suit to shreds. But it's just they have down played the Hulk's strengths in the movies so Iron Man (agreed.. a fan favorite) can take front stage lead.

The Hulk deserves a better opponent!

The Hulkbuster looks like a fat Iron Man. So lame. How hard is it to come up with a different looking giant Monster/ Alien/ Mutant/ Robot ?

Nothing special

Y is it a disappointment that Hulk is under influence from a witch?

Considering the first movie was all about mind control from an alien.

This just seems too much like the first avengers movie. A villain controls the mind of a hero and I bet the movie ends with a big battle against an evil army.

I wonder if there'll be a laser stooting into the sky on top of a tall building or a wormhole over a tall building at the end.
