I’ve been reading your guys' comments on the whole Disney/Marvel deal over the past twenty four hours, and I've successfully narrowed your reactions down to three opinion camps:

1) This is the worst news ever because now Zac Efron will obviously be Wolverine and the Jonas Brothers will be the Avengers and all superhero movies will now be musicals.

2) This is the greatest news ever because now we’ll get a Disney/Marvel/Pixar team up that will result in movies so awesome our eyes will explode.

3) Could be good, could be bad. We’ll see.

But there’s one man’s opinion everyone’s wondering about. That would be Marvel guru, Stan “The Man” Lee, and reading his recent statement about the buyout, he seems to be heavily leaning toward camp number two:

"I couldn't be happier with this agreement. It's [a] great move for Disney, for Marvel and for my company Pow! Entertainment since Pow! has a first-look deal with Disney. From every point of view, the merger of Disney and Marvel is a match made in heaven."

"Just imagine," he said, "with this deal Marvel gives Disney a library of literally hundreds of unique and colorful characters that have the potential to make great, high-concept movies and long-lasting franchises—and nobody knows how to play in that ball park better than Disney."

"This is a great day for the two companies and for the entertainment community as a whole," he continued. "To sum it up as simply as possible, when you combine the best with the best, everyone wins!"

I’m of the mindset that this isn’t a bad idea due to the fact I'm convinced the Punisher will have to start using a squirt gun, I'm just always skeptical of these giant corporations mashing together and absorbing each other leading to one day when we'll wake up and we’re all being governed by Cyberdyne.

Extra Tidbit: Hell, I'm sort of in camp number two as well. Marvel/Pixar? Come on!

This is a bad Idea. I agree with the last comment. Marvel wanted to be their own, and now they go and do this. It's not gonna last. I give it a yr. or less.

I thought Marvel Entertainment came out and were proud to be their own company, free of studio execs. Now look at this!

LOL at Craig Ferguson's joke tonight.

Zac Efron as Wolverine isn't too far off from what Jackman has already done to the character.

Marvel movies aren't R rated
Well, except for Punisher: War Zone. Did any of the Blade movies have R ratings? They weren't all that gory, you know. Most Marvel movies are already family orientated. As for the comics, the movie division already had the upper hand because it was making more money: the head of the movie division complained that the comics were getting too "adult" and the editor-in-chief at Marvel comics...

As for the comics, the movie division already had the upper hand because it was making more money: the head of the movie division complained that the comics were getting too "adult" and the editor-in-chief at Marvel comics was immediately fired. This was back in the days when Marvel was liscencing out its characters: a Nick Fury movie fell through because the MAX comic was considered too adult. Come to think of it, it was just as well because if the character Nick Fury had been liscenced out then he couldn't appear in Iron Man.

If Stan is happy with it, then so am I.

Seriously, I don't see the big problem. Disney didn't buy Marvel so they could change how they work, they bought it cause they realise the massive potention of the movie franchises. Disney will sit back and let Marvel do what they do. Just like they have done with Pixar.

Honestly, I'm not so much worried about Marvel's films as I am their comics. If Disney's smart, they'll simply sit back and reap boatloads of cash from the movies. Comics-wise, though, I'm not sure how happy they'll be putting out things like the MAX imprint. What it comes down to is, so long as they don't try to interfere creatively, then whatever. But if they start fucking with some of the more adult titles, and "sanitizing" the books for younger audiences, then Marvel's gonna lose a lot of customers.

Been great news but about the rides..
They had a whole press release about this today. Being that NBC Universal owns all Marvel related amusements east of the Mississippi, Marvel amusements will stay at Universal in Orlando. As for the California theme park, The first Marvel ride can be created by think 2010 or 2013 (one was for movies and one was for rides).

Pixar doesn't need Marvel
The Incredibles was better that the 2 Fantastic 4 movies combined. I'd want to see more Incredibles.

And what long lasting franchise is he talking about, the National treasure or POTC sequels? All of the good Disney animated films got a bunch of horrible direct-to-video sequels for a quick money-grab, which I can see happening to the marvel characters.

DISNEY OWNS MIRAMAX!!
Thank you csdot!! I'm sick of people all over the "information super Highway" saying that were gonna see cheeky Marvel movies. I seriously doubt Disney will brand Marvel Movies with Disney Logo, Maybe if they do it with Pixar which will be awesome anyway, but they'll probably just brand it with from Marvel Entertainment or Miramax, c'mon you guys wisen up. Punisher with a squirt gun, funny but not likely. They aren't one of the biggest companies in the world because they make lame decisions. This is the best news Marvel and its fans have seen in a long time. Disney, now that Iger is in charge is totally awesome again.

also consider disney owns miramax which releases hard R movies all the time. im not worried about marvel studios being able to continue to make the same kind of movies they would anyway. its all just under the disney umbrella

Also consider that Disney did the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Not exactly devoid of violence.

Disney doesnt only make family friendly films, those are released under Touchstone. The Prestige and Apocalypto arent family friendly movies, are they ? Touchstone is behind those films. Touchstone is Disney. Stop panicking.

On one hand perhaps this is a scheme to get the characters away from Sony and Fox. But on the other hand any posibility of an R rated marvel movie has just flown out the window. Lets face it characters like Wolverine or venom cannot be pg13.

the only 2 marvel comics i read were spiderman and xmen. those 2 movie franchises are pretty much over after their respective 3rd movies. so since those are the only 2 marvel characters i gave a crap about, this doesn't affect me as much.

THIS IS S*** ...
... however you look at it. Disney and Pixar stand for family nonviolent entertainment, and some of the Marvel characters stand for voiolence ( oh, yeah, I'm talking Wolverine, Punisher, Blade etc.) And now, since Disney bought Marvel, we're gonna see more family friendly adaptations of Marvel. This is also bad for Pixar, which created original and unique cartoons, and now may be forced to do...

This is also bad for Pixar, which created original and unique cartoons, and now may be forced to do Spider-Man 3D animated movie or something like it. This also means some of the shitty directors like Jon Turteltaub will get to direct something like Daredevil. This is disaster, no matter what Stan Lee says.
