Stan Lee talks Spider-Man reboot & Iron Man 2

01.26.2010

Who better to weigh in on the SPIDER-MAN reboot than one of his creators, Stan Lee?

In this interview with Access Hollywood, they ask Lee what he thinks about the upcoming high school reboot. From Lee's perspective, it's a great idea. He also comments about the fans whining over the new Spidey franchise.

I really enjoy how excited he gets over his cameos. For the first IRON MAN film, Jon Favreau originally wanted Lee to be Hugh Hefner. Now for the second installment, he reveals he's throwing on some suspenders to become Larry King. The video is quite entertaining and reminds me that there's nothing wrong with being lighthearted about comic book films.

Extra Tidbit: Apparently Stan Lee hates the idea of sidekicks, which is why virtually none of the Marvel characters have them.

Reality= if this were a sports game

before even starting the game they are already 10 points behind. And as a lifetime fan you dont ignore any article about spiderman, and i hope he makes a decent movie but they just had to go on with the many storylines that are possible, something in the line of harry potter by changing directors and have someone fresh take over once in a while. Just hate the whole origin again idea. The reason it did work for batman was because in burton's batman they didnt go to deep on the origin subject so

What I don't understand is the need for another angsty young Spider-Man. As if the whole trilogy wasn't full of angst already. I, for one, am waiting for a solid screenplay that doesn't bastardize any of the characters.

funny how the people who hate the idea of this movie have to comment about how much they hate it every article. if it makes you that mad, just skip the spiderman articles from now on. seriously.

gotta love Lee

Look I gotta admit not too interested in a reboot but honestly like most reboots its just another interpretation. and while 3 was weaker then 1&2 it was still watchable and i did enjoy it more than most. but saying fuck you Lee, he should die, shut up, etc, come on people really yeah his cameos are not the thing you go to the film for but honestly if you created something and knew it was gonna be made into a movie and they asked you to do a cameo you'd say yes. And he's not in every comicbook

And he's not in every comicbook movie just in the ones he created. I love the first 3 movies and was not hip to the reboot idea right away but honestly its happening and i will be disappointed to see Raimi and Maguire go but who knows this reboot may go the way of batman begins, or it could go all punisher warzone. either way i will reserve judgement till i see the film or at least a trailer.

STEP 1: leave stan lee out of it

It's stupid that you see him in every superhero movie, fuck off! How can you agree(as the creator) with the way things are going? Total disrespect to everybody involved with the first 3 movies and the people that paid to see it. Like: We took your money and act like the other movies never happened and will now try to take your money again. Even if schwarzenegger would play spiderman stan lee would agree. Fuck em all!!!

Gotta agree. The man is a comic book creator, not a moviemaker. You're asking the wrong guy.

How can he agree with the way things are going? Erm, lets see because sony are taking the franchise back to where it belongs, in high school.

Peter is a teenager, that't what made him so appealing, cause he had real life problems and the superhero problems. A good balance, all Raimi focused on was his relationship with mary-jane, made it a snooze-fest. not to mention he made every villian to have a tragic backstory. Raimi F**ked this up, and I'm glad it is getting redone.

Yea..

Stan is great and all - but they forgot to ask him how his checks are coming along promoting the reboot of Spiderman.
I can almost guarantee I won't like the teen version.

Ehh...

I love Stan Lee, but seems to love every idea. Bonus points for that epic diss towards Access Hollywood.

Oh Mr. Lee...

Stan always seems optimistic abot every idea/decision Marvel takes towards their films and ofcourse he's gonna be happy wit the Spidey reboot and talking about the "complaining" fans that made Sam's films what they are now is (I think) a big middle finger to all of us and he should be greatful that we all went out to see them! I'm still bumbed about Sam and Tobey's departure as well as still against the reboot.

I like his cameos. Anyone remember his cameo in Spider-Man cartoon back in 1994 or 1995? I was really excited when I saw that on tv. Good time.

I liked his indirect jab at Spider-Man 3 and yes the franchise basically reached a dead end. It's time for a reboot! Here's hoping they do Spidey some justice with some new blood. Fingers crossed.

Stan's the Man!

Stan Lee's great. How could you hate this guy? I hope I have just half the piss & vinegar he has when I'm his age.

Gotta love him. ;)

Stan Lee's cameos piss me off. They serve no purpose whatsoever and all they do is momentarily take me out of the movie with the thought "Oh fuck you and your pointless cameos, Stan Lee."

Him playing Larry King is enough of a reason to see Iron Man 2.

The thing is, when Stan Lee was an active creator/collaborator from the 60s to the 80s, he actually had a lot of fun, and tried to make comic books fun for readers. He was always optimistic, and it carries over to his perspective about the movies.

Because he co-created alot of characters, if he ever said something was a bad idea, someone behind the less than great movies might actually listen

well

whether or not I agree with the way he feels about the new movie, it's always a joy to see how excited the man gets about his work.
