It looks as Sony is just about done figuring out what the hell to do with THE INTERVIEW after U.S. president Barack Obama stated that it was a mistake NOT to release the film. As of now, the film WILL see at least a limited theatrical release with The Plaza theater in Atlanta taking charge, as well as Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League stating that they have been allowed to screen the film on Christmas day. Word on the street is that more theaters will have access to the film, although the exact dates for this, as well as a possible VOD release, have yet to be announced.

Tweets confirming screening the film:

Official statement from Sony Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton:

We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we're excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. I want to thank our talent on THE INTERVIEW and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film's release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.

JoBlo's Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey wrote up a great column regarding most of our thoughts here at the 'Blo, and his last lines were, "Find your middle finger, Sony. There's still time." He's absolutely right. Taking the film away was a mistake, so now's their chance to right that wrong and make it available to any theater that wishes to screen it. I promise you that people are willing to go the extra mile to see this flick in a theater. As always, we'll be sure to keep you all updated on THE INTERVIEW's release!

Let's just hope they don't cancel this limited release date either. Fingers crossed.

Netforce, I work at an Alamo and I can tell you we're definitely playing it on Christmas. Happy to say it looks like we're actually sold out of all screenings until Monday.

Fuck Yes!

Wow, I'm having a good day. I'll say that as much as we were all willing to gripe about Sony giving in to terrorists They deserve credit for ultimately making the right decision, and not an easy one at that considering the risk of potential violence and whatever else the hackers planning on doing to them.

Overall this is a victory for freedom, and Sony deserves credit for doing the right thing even If it took them a little while to get there.

I don't like Michael Lynton

He keeps saying bullshit like they didn't tuck tail and run WHEN OBVIOUSLY THEY DID. I'd respect him if he had the balls to admit that. Though maybe they woudn't have cowered if he had balls in the first place.

Remember, the theaters were threatened with violence and 95% of theaters said they wont show it before Sony backed down. Sony was being backed into a corner and needed the public support. Sony hasnt been show as a victim much of all this. Remember there is still a large amount of data the Hackers got that they havent made public yet, including up to 25 movies yet to be released in theaters. Sony has to worry about losing money from those movies, losing money in stock, losing money in security, and having to handle violent threats from a major dictator.

That being said, there was never a doubt in my mind the movie wouldnt get a release. Either on VOD or "leaked" (possibly by sony themselves) the movie was gonna hit the public very soon. North Korea didnt win, they landed a punch. They got our attention, and now they've rallied large support in America against themselves. "The Interview" will be a footnote in the overall US/NK conflict that is coming. And NK doesnt stand a chance

This is ultimately about China, because it's a battle between China and the United States to be the reigning super power of the next few decades and China is the main line of support for North Korea in terms of commerce, food supply, etc. North Korea is a pawn in a much larger [link] Cold War that is brewing.

I would agree that China is the biggest player in this game, but i doubt China will be supporting North Korea much longer. Despite China's claim to be communist (or whatever non-capitalist society they have) they like western media. China loves Apple produces, American Movies, Fast food, etc, and there is a lot of money in this. Money Talks. China will sway their support away from North Korea if North Korea starts hurting China's trade with the US, Japan, and Europe. China may not be fully

China may not be fully supportive of what the US is doing in Asia like Japan and South Korea are, but they wont get in the way much if North Korea falls.

China and Russia are two big players. Neither one will sacrifice money or power to support North Korea when it will need it the most.

I agree, generally. However, China is having issues giving its citizens a fair shake in life, due to overpopulation and lack of infrastructure outside the main hubs of major cities. Adding 25 million refugees, the vast majority of which have very limited skills and virtually no education, would only add to their particular headaches. It behooves them to keep North Koreans in North Korea, which means keeping that country's internal autonomous control afloat. That, sadly, probably means baseline

China will not support a coup in any way and will not sit idly by if the United States or an international coalition takes any sort of military action to remove Kim and his lackeys from power.

As someone who actually saw the feature about 3 weeks ago at an exhibitor screening (I work as a film booker for a circuit out here in California) I am now very curious to see the theatrical release. I am more curious to see if they have actually changed scenes to tone down the way that Kim's character was depicted in the exhibitor screening.

All in all, the feature was decent, typical Seth and James type of comedy.

Hey, guess what?...Obama LIED when he said Sony never contacted him.

Some people on here were saying Obama said everything wonderfully, but he, once again, LIED...Obama supporters were wondering why we didn't like what he said. Well, it's because he lied, not surprisingly. Sony in fact did try to contact him, but they were never able to speak to Obama personally. Now since Obama is making this seem like a big deal, you would think he would definitely want to talk to Sony if they tried, but he didn't!

YouTube link where Sony's CEO mentions that he tried to

...because he's the president and has more important things to do and has cabinet members and staffers to which he delegates matters of artistic freedom situations to handle themselves...Jesus this isn't a political thing, man. This isn't Red vs. Blue vs. Multi-Color. This is about the essence of being American, not the party lines. Obama has some serious faults as president, but this is not an issue to get political on with him. Give it a rest.

Dude, I know I engaged in a discussion with you before, but this isn't the platform for it, eh? In an article that mentions the movie is seeing the light of day, why do you need to bring this into it? Is it constructive? No. Does it serve a purpose? No. Is it even accurate? Hmm.....

"because he's the president and has more important things to do"

Dude, Obama said that he wishes that Sony talked to him and Sony actually tried to, so what you're saying doesn't make sense.

"Obama has some serious faults as president, but this is not an issue to get political on with him."

Oh, him lying about a serious issue isn't a big deal?

Gee, it might have to do with the fact that I posted this exact comment in the other article 2 days ago, but never heard anything from anyone, so I figured to post it again.

Ah, so you posted that same comment on another article and no one addressed it, so you repeated yourself again? What are you? Five years old? C'mon, it's like americanmoviefan said, stop making this an Obama thing. The purpose this serves is you get to call the President a liar, cheers! You're done...lets get back to being movie fans, eh?

OK, actually think about it before you make a comment only making fun of me. Although it's obvious that you only wanted to do that...I did it in case no one saw it. I did it because I wanted Obama supporters to see that Obama lied once again about something serious, because you know, that is a big deal.

Ever single politician is lying to you! They don't really care how much you promote what lies the President has told because that means you aren't paying attention to them. Have you vilified everyone else? I'd imagine not, but you're entitled to your opinion, that's kind of what the point of this mess with the movie is, huh?

So you don't care that he lied about a major issue because other Presidents have lied?...If that's true, that's not smart at all.

"Have you vilified everyone else? I'd imagine not"

Why would you imagine that when you don't even know me personally and I very rarely have ever talked politics with you?...Your disdain for me is obviously making you think those things.

To answer your question though, yes I have. I think Bush was awful. So before you judge me so coldly, maybe you should know

I'm going to help

I have a relationship with a small independent theater in NorCal that runs festivals and pre-release Q&A screenings year round. I'm e-mailing the Executive Director to inform him of Sony's plan, if he isn't already privy to it. I know he has contacts within all the major studios and I am positive he will offer his theater as a venue. WISH ME LUCK, JOBLO-ers~
