The second trailer for The Internship still looks like a Google sponsored version of Old School

04.18.2013

Back when the initial trailer for THE INTERNSHIP was released, I said it looked like a PG-13 version of OLD SCHOOL. This new trailer does not do much to change that perspective. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are an awesome team in WEDDING CRASHES, so having them reunite for this holds expectations that they will deliver a raunchy, hilarious follow-up. But, for some reason this feels almost like something Adam Sandler would appear in. I hope when the movie is finally released, I am proven wrong.

Here's the synopsis:

Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

The concept is definitely timely for our current economic conditions, but it almost feels like a commercial for Google. The campus featured in the film is a set and not the actual Google offices, but Google did give input on how their company is setup. So, this is a fictional vision of the web company that gives them free advertising. If anything, I will see this for the promised cameo from Will Ferrell.

Costarring Rose Byrne, Aasif Maandvi, Jessica Szohr, Josh Gad, Max Minghella, and John Goodman, THE INTERNSHIP opens June 7, 2013

Ok, there are a few laughs in that trailer so I'll probably drop $10 to see it and hope for more laughs in teh actual movie.

It won't be anything new, but it looks fun.

I bet Wilson and Vaughn both know that the movie isn't funny, but they don't care because they're getting paid millions.

Looks like it will be predictable and not very funny.

Here's my prediction: Vince and Owen get fired from their jobs, get accepted into the internship, and for the first half of the movie they will be goofy and ridiculous, and it will seem impossible for them to get this internship. Everyone will mock them. But then that sports game going on will be the start of a new friendship. The other people on their team won't want anything to do with them, but they'll realize that our main characters are actually really good at something! They'll

Everyone will mock them. But then that sports game going on will be the start of a new friendship. The other people on their team won't want anything to do with them, but they'll realize that our main characters are actually really good at something! They'll become close to each other. Then the rest of the movie will be about how these other people will take either Vince or Owen under their wing, this will break Owen and Vince apart.

Cue 15 minutes of bullcrap sappy stuff. Then the internship will be announced for Owen, or Vince. But they'll realize that it can only be given to one of them. So then he'll be like, "Waaah... we came here together, and even if we went our separate ways for a little bit there, I'm not doing an internship without him. Either both of us, or neither of us at all."

Then they'll both get the internship and everyone will cheer and that seriously better not be how it goes, or this will be one of the most predictable comedies of the last few centuries.

Despite my sour affect towards the movie, I know that it has all the ingredients to be a success. :) People will flock to see Vince and Owen back on the big screen again, and the Google plot will definitely bring in the tech people (even people who consider themselves to not be tech people, know what Google is... boom, more ticket sales there as well!). So I won't judge. It could be a fun movie to sit back and relax with, but... I'm just not feeling the humor at all, from either trailer. :(

While this doesn't seem all that exciting to me, I kind of feel like seeing it just because Google is a couple of miles away from me and I dig this kind of tech industry humor.

Looks tired...

This feels like a Yes Man/Mr. Popper's Penguins/mid-90's Chevy Chase movie...Two dudes past their comedic/relevance prime trying to recapture old glory by reminding people about how awesome their generation is and how lame the new/current crop is. I'm not buying what this is selling.

Though I can agree that Vince and Owen may be getting up there in terms of comedic age, I wouldn't quite call it "past their prime" just yet. :)

"reminding people about how awesome their generation is and how lame the new/current crop is"
which is exactly like every schmoe here who will say how in their time movies were better, more original, free from sequels (even though they all grew up in the eighties), how current teens suck because they like different movies then they do.
