Things have gotten messy with Channing Tatum’s Ghostbusters movie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Paul Feig has started production on his all-female GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, but there hasn't been any movement on the GB flick from the Russo Brothers and Channing Tatum besides the Chris Pratt rumors. No big deal though, since the project is still in the early stages of development, right? Well, based on recent comments by Tatum and his producing partner and MAGIC MIKE screenwriter Reid Carolin, it sounds like the actor may no longer be involved with the planned film or, at the very least, it has been put on the back burner for now.

During Tatum's appearance on The Howard Stern Show (the same one where he trashed G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA) the actor was asked if he is doing a GHOSTBUSTERS film. His response:

That thing's gotten messy. I gotta be honest. There's a lot of people doing a lot of things on Ghostbusters. Yeah, I don't know is the answer.

Channing Tatum is optimistic his GHOSTBUSTERS will happen ("I think we're in a bit of a sort of gestation period"), however when Reid Carolin was asked about the film during an interview with Screen Rant, he told the site they probably aren't doing it anymore.

No I don’t think so, I think it’s too complicated. There’s a lot of things going on with that brand and I just feel like it’s over-saturated.

Sony is likely taking a wait-and-see approach with Paul Feig's reboot before fully committing to a second film in a GHOSTBUSTERS shared universe, so if things go well perhaps Tatum will return to the project, that is, of course if he is actually off of the movie. Do you think the actor is done with GHOSTBUSTERS?

Channing Tatum can be seen next shaking his turd cutter in MAGIC MIKE XXL on July 1, 2015.
