True Lies 2?

UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, James Cameron has already declared the untruth of Tom’s claims to AICN (succinctly: “There are no plans for a True Lies 2.”). Which should give us another few months before Tom starts talking about it again.

The New York Times recently ran a lengthy profile of Mr. Tom Arnold, and when they asked him what he was currently working on, he dropped a bombshell that should be best approached with caution:

“All I know is Jim Cameron’s making it and Arnold” — Mr. Schwarzenegger — “and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California,” he said. “It’s not going to be called ‘True Lies II,’ but it might as well be. I can live with that.”

With Cameron busy with AVATAR and BATTLE ANGEL (not to mention his propensity to wait 10 years in between films), and Arnold busy sinking California deeper into debt, I highly doubt that TRUE LIES 2 is at the top of either of their priority lists. Tom Arnold, on the other hand, is not one of the most famous directors in the world OR the head of our country’s largest state, so maybe he’s had time to map this whole thing out in his head. After all, it isn’t the first time he’s talked about the project.

We’ll have to wait and see what degree of truth his statement has, and expect a comment (or no comment) from Cameron and/or Schwarzenegger soon.
