Video Games: The trailer for Grand Theft Auto V

Nov. 14, 2012by: Paul Shirey

Get ready to wreak havoc once again as the next entry from Rockstar Games' popular Grand Theft Auto series has debuted a new trailer for the fifth entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, bringing all the familiar mayhem you've come to expect. This time out, the open-world action/adventure series follows three different characters, which you can jump between throughout gameplay and is set in fictional Los Santos in the state of San Andreas and its surrounding areas, based on modern-day Los Angeles and Southern California.

Make that money:

Here's a synopsis of the characters:

"Michael is a retired former bank robber in his early forties who lives with his dysfunctional family on the proceeds of his former life in the upper-class suburb of Rockford Hills, based on Beverley Hills. Trevor lives alone in a trailer in the desert of Blaine County, his reckless and psychopathic behaviours being fuelled by a drug addiction. Franklin makes a living in Vespucci Beach based on Venice Beach as a repo man for an unscrupulous car dealership. The three acquaintances are drawn into Los Santos' criminal underworld in the "pursuit of the almighty American dollar"

Rockstar Games and Take-Two is promising the biggest open-world environment to date with Grand Theft Auto V, saying the game is "a bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer." With anticipation building on an already mega-popular series, this fifteenth installment in the series is sure to bring the heat and let us all explore our inner dark side.

Grand Theft Auto is slated for release in Spring 2013.

Was that a freakin' fighter jet???? Unlike GTAIV, this looks to be more "off-the-wall" and "fun". Goddamit, this looks badass!!!

Looks fun. BTW, Argyle was listening to the same Stevie Wonder song in the limo when John tries to call him for help in Die Hard. That's your obscure reference for the day.

I love GTA but that didn't do much for me. Too...light. GTAIV had me excited

And Rockstar would be fucking stupid to tarnish the franchise with a movie adaptation. Nobody has ever played GTA for the stories. You should never adapt games that are popular because of the gameplay. In fact everyone should just stop trying to turn games in movies. The order is backwards. Take great movies and make them into games.

"Take great movies and make them into games."

That ... doesn't usually work too well.

It works well when the product is not rushed to get it out in time for the release of the movie.

Looks so damn good it hurts. A playground thats bigger than Red Dead, San Andreas and GTA IV combined! GTA never disappoints. I kinda was hoping for "Michael" to have been Tommy Vercetti so i could have some more Liotta, but the fact that Michael is an ex criminal in witness protection that sounds of Liotta is almost just as good. Can not wait until spring of next year!
