Wan on Castlevania

The challenge of bringing the CASTLEVANIA videogame series to theaters has been on the highest difficulty setting, with directors like Paul WS Anderson (RESIDENT EVIL) and Sylvain White (STOMP THE YARD) ultimately being defeated by the end boss.

Now the side-scrolling vampire-battling action will be brought to life by a new game controller: according to Bloody-Disgusting, SAW co-creator James Wan is now the guy who will write and direct the story about a family of knights fighting Dracula and other beasts.

The thing I love about what Konami did with Castlevania, was taking the iconic Dracula mythology and Eastern-European setting, and retelling it with a Japanese pop-cultural sensibility,” Wan told B-D. “That’s the East-meets-West tone I want to visually expand on for the film. I’m thrilled by the opportunity to make a highly stylized, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic storyline and the cool, anime-like characters. For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain, and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place – The Vampire Killer Whip.

B-D has more from Wan, as well as teaser art for the project, RIGHT HERE.
