Cool Videos: What Kickstarter could mean for The Terminator and Cobra Commander

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Seriously, Kickstarter? Look what you have done.

After VERONICA MARS garnered over $3 million in just a couple of days, everyone has been wondering what the next project will be to benefit from crowd-sourcing. Could it be Joss Whedon‘s FIREFLY or maybe another cult series? Here are a couple of options, one a rumor and the other a hilarious plea from a fictional character.

First up is the news from The Arnold Fans that there may be potential to revive the short-lived Fox series TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. The show, which starred Lena Headey, Summer Glau, and Garrett Dillahunt, was cancelled with a major cliffhanger in the works. It would be a perfect candidate for a Kickstarter revival, at least to produce a concluding movie to tie up story threads. When executive producer Lames Middleton was asked about it, here is what he had to say:

“You know, Josh Friedman and I have talked a lot about this (and I mean A LOT) and he recently tweeted about it in the wake of the VM (Veronica Mars) excitement. The issue is that the current owners of the franchise seem to have no interest in reviving TSCC. And if they were interested, they would not need Kickstarter to finance the movie. There are well-funded entities that have previously expressed strong interest in reviving TSCC and the franchise owners (Annapurna Pictures) – through their reps – have passed on the idea. WBTV no longer has the sole right to restart the series or to do a spinoff, so the participation of the current franchise owners is critical. But they seem to be focussed on making Terminator movies at the moment which is not shocking or even a surprise. Josh and I would love to do a TSCC movie, if it were possible. A movie would be more feasible to schedule with the cast.”

So, it sounds like fans of the series would have to do without since a big screen TERMINATOR is likely more cost effective than a revival of a failed television show. So, if that isn’t going to happen, what good is Kickstarter? How about rebuilding an army?

With G.I. JOE: RETALIATION about to hit theaters, a spoof featuring Cobra Commander has shown up on Kickstarter with a plea to fans of the series. Here is the letter posted on the campaign:

We are COBRA, a worldwide organization devoted to making advancements in science and defense technology. Recently our home and secret base of operations was destroyed in an attack by the terrorist militia known as G.I. Joe. So after discussing a plan of action with my colleagues Destro, Dr. Mindbender, and our business analysts Tomax and Xamot, we reached the conclusion that we need $94 billion to fully restore Cobra Island and the COBRA organization. Thanks, Cobra Commander.

Enjoy the video from the campaign. I couldn’t stop chuckling thinking about how ridiculous Cobra Commander is as a character from the cartoon. We truly need to get a badass version of him on the big screen.
