The first G.I. JOE spin-off is in the works and THR has word that Iko Uwais, the bad-ass star of THE RAID and THE RAID 2, is currently in negotiations to join the cast of SNAKE EYES.

Centered around the deadly ninja commando, SNAKE EYES is said to find the titular character seeking revenge for his father's death by joining a ninja clan and finding acceptance in the process. Henry Golding (CRAZY RICH ASIANS) is slated to play Snake Eyes, with Andre Koji (Warrior) set to play Storm Shadow, a fellow ninja is is both blood brother and archenemy to Snake Eyes. As for Iko Uwais, he would play Hard Master, a tough as nails teacher who instructs Snake Eyes and also happens to be a skilled swordmaster. Following in the footsteps of G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA and G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, SNAKE EYES will be the third film in the Paramount/Hasbro franchise. The spin-off is slated to be helmed by Robert Schwentke (RED) and scripted by Evan Spiliotopoulos (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) with production expected to kick off in Vancouver and Tokyo this fall.

Iko Uwais' latest work found him headed to the small-screen for the first time in Wu Assassins, a Netflix series which dropped last month and stars Uwais as a young chef named Kai in present-day San Francisco who becomes entangled with the Chinese Triad’s pursuit of deadly ancient powers known as the "Wu Xing." After an encounter with a mystical spirit, Kai reluctantly becomes the Wu Assassin, using his enhanced martial arts skills to recover supernatural powers from five modern day criminals threatening to use them to destroy the world.
