What’s going on with Depp’s Lone Ranger flick?

Back in 2008 at a Disney event in Los Angeles, it was announced that Johnny Depp would star in ALICE IN WONDERLAND, a fourth PIRATES film and THE LONE RANGER. ALICE, with Depp as Mad Hatter, hits theaters in about three weeks. Rob Marshall is directing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 later this year with Penelope Cruz just announced as co-starring. But what about THE LONE RANGER?

PIRATES writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio took a stab at a script but that never went anywhere. Now Disney has hired Justin Haythe to work on a new draft of THE LONE RANGER script. Haythe had previously worked with the studio on the script for McG’s failed 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. Hopefully this is means the new production president at Disney, Sean Bailey, is serious about getting LONE RANGER off the ground.

Though honestly, out of those three projects I’m probably the least excited about THE LONE RANGER (not that I’m particularly juiced about PIRATES 4, but you get the idea). Would you like to see Depp stick with this project or move onto something else outside of Disney?
