Why I Love Movies - Chapter V

Apr. 4, 2014by: Alex Maidy

Why do I love movies? Well, that is a loaded question. How much time do you have? I could go into a long-winded diatribe about the art of film-making or the magic of the movies, but all of that has been said countless times before. Not every movie is a masterpiece, but every film has touched me in one way or another. Every other week, we will look at a handful of reasons why movies are so damn great..

CHAPTER V

I love movies...because of how it feels when you find someone who knows the movie F/X as well as you

Because of Doc’s misunderstanding the word “heavy” in BACK TO THE FUTURE

Because of Pixar

Because of the clown doll in THE GAME

Because of Brad Pitt acting nuts in 12 MONKEYS

Because of the way I felt when I learned STAR WARS: EPISODE VII was coming

Because of the hours of debates I had about what THE MATRIX was all about

Because of Robert Downey Jr in TROPIC THUNDER

Because I learned my first curse words from FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR

Because of the three seashells in DEMOLITION MAN

Because of Matt Damon’s story about his brothers in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN

Because of A CHRISTMAS STORY marathons on TBS every year

Because of the spaceship from EXPLORERS

Because of the first half of FULL METAL JACKET

Because of the second half of EYES WIDE SHUT

Because of the milkshake scene in THERE WILL BE BLOOD

Because of Frank Mackey’s inspirational speech in MAGNOLIA

Because of Tom Cruise in TROPIC THUNDER

Because of Russell Crowe asking if we are not entertained in GLADIATOR

Because of Leslie Nielsen’s racist daydream in SOUL MAN

Stay tuned every other week for more reasons Why I Love Movies! In the meantime, we WANT TO HEAR YOUR OWN REASONS below!!

*Because Robert Shaw cheated with four 9s, but Paul Newman surprised him with four Jacks instead of four 3s in The Sting.
*Because of sobbing to death during John Coffey's execution in The Green Mile.
*Because of my introduction to letterbox with the great chariot race scene in Ben Hur being presented in it's letterbox format on TV.
