Will we see Doombots in Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four?

04.03.2014

A couple of days ago we learned Toby Kebbell will be playing Doctor Doom in Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR, and Nerdist believes the villain will have some help battling the superhero team in the reboot. Sources have told the site, "Doombots will definitely be in the film, in the form of drones that the good doctor controls telekinetically."

Doombots are exactly what they sound like: robot replicas of Doctor Doom, created by the villain for certain situations. Usually those instances have been when Doom doesn't think he'll come out on top during a fight. There are two types of Doombots (fighting and diplomatic), and they also have remote shut offs, just in case one of the bots decides to take on the real Doom.

It would make sense to bring Doombots to the big screen with the reboot since they didn't appear in the other Fantastic Four movies, and it would give the team someone/something else to clash with besides Doctor Doom. Before you get too excited about Doombots though, remember this is technically a rumor at this point. But I think it's very likely we will see Doombots in THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, and Toby Kebbell will be released on June 19th, 2015, and the sequel is scheduled to open on July 14th, 2017.

I'm just not sure how this property will work - it won't work as a superhero film because the FF aren't superheroes - they are explorers. Marvel has had success in splicing superhero flicks with other genres (Ant-Man will be a heist film, Avengers as a disaster flick, Cap 2 as a 70's style political thriller etc). Perhaps if this is a superhero film spliced with an adventure film in the style of 20,000 Leagues or Fantastic Voyage, then maybe that could be interesting and truer to the comic

I don't know. I'm reaching. With this cast I don't know what the hell they're doing.

This article's headline asks, "Will we see Doombots in Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four?" Not if we skip the movie. We might see them in the TV trailers perhaps.
I wonder if Fox fully understands that certain moviegoers are boycotting this film. Potentially, the studio will alter the movie so that it appeals more to kids or to general audiences. Otherwise, I wonder if Fox intends for Age of Apocalypse or Days of Future Past to reboot the entire shared universe of the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

In an alternate timeline, the Fantastic Four could more easily and believably exist as cast. The current complaining fans (I am among them) might settle-down. However, are Fox's executive and creative staff so clever? I am not sure. No one is sure how smart Fox Studios is.

Could be worse. Could be some super handsome 22 year old cast as Mole Man.

Uh, don't even pretend they didn't think of that. You do realize they got some ballet dancing kid to play The Thing in this right?

The only thing that makes Dr Doom stand out as a villain is that he's an honest to god dictator - something no other comic villain has really achieved. But does Fox care? No. They're gonna keep treating him like their stupid Joker analog for the rest of time. It really sucks that the best Marvel rogues galleries are owned and underutilized by other studios. Who cares about the FF, imagine how awesome it would be to have an entire country's resources pitted against the Avengers

Creative atrophy

So basically the Fantadtic Four have Dr Doom and Galactus as enemies and we all know Fox would never have Galcatus appear properly in their movies. Who has the Skrull rights? But look at how they handle the Xmen. Using Magneto over and over and over. Fox is embarrassed of their properties and they will never reach their potential.

So not only are we seeing the Fantastic Four fight the same villain again for the third time in three films, we are going to see the Fantastic Four fight multiples of said villains. Sounds terrible which is not surprising since this whole film sounds and looks terrible.

It would be nice to have actually gotten a great reboot with the Fantastic Four fighting a different villain for once and having the films build up to the big dramatic fight with them and Doctor Doom after one or two films.

Who cares?

Seriously. You all know the majority if this site is very against this movie -(me being included in that group)- cut out all the FF news and just post a trailer whenever it drops. Cause honestly, I don't think we give a fuck about this until we see some rolling footage.

Alternate pitch: A Doombot and a Sentinel become buddy cops. Fox wants to build their own universe anyway, right?

So far the casting hasnt impressed me what so ever, this is to include the new Human Torch. I only hope the story and Dooms costume are good.
